Turns out I can't do Tobacco Road Marathon due to a wedding. Wrightsville looks like a good alternative. Other than the fact that it's flat and starts crazy early (6:30AM!) anyone have additional scoop on the race?

My first marathon! I liked it. I didn't feel as though the start time was all that early, especially since it warmed up the year I did it. The course is flat, flat, flat, and (when I raced it) the half and full start together, causing you to maybe go out a little faster than you intend.

The support is great, there are a ton of hotels along the course, and the gated neighborhood (can't remember the name) is actually quite nice. You can stay right on the course and your family can come out, cheer, then go back to bed within a few mins of seeing you.

My only gripe is that the markers might confuse you. I doubled back at one point b/c I thought I had gone the wrong way. Since I was towards the front, I didn't really have the option to follow anyone (around mile 18, I believe) and lost maybe 30-45 seconds.

Anyways, read my race report if you get a chance...You might be able to extract a nugget, or two, of helpful information there.

course is changed this year. You only go into Landfall once (you actually will run a little longer with the half people than in years past) then you head back to the beach and then out to UNCW before returning to the end. Still super flat course.

As others have said, super flat but well supported. I BQ'd here last year.

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.
