My A race for the year is IM Lou so I'm backing off on most other races. At this point I am signed up for the GR 70.3 and that's it. I might do something at MiTi, maybe the aqua bike, but I'll decide as I get closer and see how training is going.

I'm running the T-Rex series as well. And the Tawas Festival of Races. I may look for one more, depending on how the season progresses.

The two I am sure of are the Tawas Festival of Races and IM Louisville. I might to a couple of smaller events like Boyne or Hubbard Lake.

The only tris I've signed up for are the ones on Belle Isle in June and September (Spring and Oly, respectively).

I'm signed up for a full marathon in Traverse City in May, and the Free Press Marathon in October. I did a full in Kensington last July that I might run again, but it was damn hot and hilly...great training, but not a fun race. I'm shooting to BQ or die this year, we'll see how that goes.

A half marathon in Dearborn in April.

A handful of 5k and 10k that looked like fun.

I'm debating on doing a HIM this year, it'll be my first, but it's hard to seriously train for both tris and full marathons. Either my tri suffers or my running suffers.

My plan is to cut down the amount of racing I'm doing this year. Right now, I'm only signed up for three races:

May: Back to the Beach half marathon
June: Motor City (sprint)
September: Montreal Espirit Triathlon (Olympic)

I've heard really good things about the Montreal race. It's my first destination race, and if all goes well, I might do the 70.3 in 2017 there.

FYI, these are just the tris I listed. End of April to the middle of May is nothing but half marathons, including a Columbus/Pittsburgh half marathon weekend. When the tri season kicks in I'll regulate myself to 5Ks and 10K interspersed the tris. Yes, I like keeping busy during the spring and summer. I have 20 events already paid for with another 10 in the questionable stage.

Looking forward to racing this year.
Currently signed up for:
Sky Tri Sprint (Ann Arbor) - May
Ironman Chattanooga - September

Trying to add a few Olympic distances in between as well as a Half before my Full in September, just not sure which ones yet. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears!

If you're in the male 30-39 age group I don't recommend the Petoskey triathlon... otherwise it's one of my favorites. The Olympic swim is kind of stupid as it's 2 loops of a 500m course so only 1000m when they could simply add a third to get to 1500. The bike is scenic and challenging and the run is along the bay on the bike course.

I have signed up to do the Element Events Olympic distance at Island Lake on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

My "A' race is IM Lou

I am preparing for the Louisville race with three other friends. We are writing about our preparations at tri1406.com.

In August we are going to go to Louisville to bike the course. Sometime in July we are going to have our families and friends support us as we do a self-crafted 70.3 around Island Lake and Kensington area. Our schedules didn't match up with any races at that time.

Racing in the Motor City Tri and IM LOU this year. Ironman events take the majority of my race budget for any given year. I might do an Island Lake race during the summer since I love the venue/company.

It's amazing how many people from MI are headed down to IM LOU... at least 3 of us in this thread and I know of at least a dozen more.

I think October is good timing for IM Lou for people in Michigan training because of our late spring and beautiful summer.

Agree! It's a close enough race to drive with kids. I did IMFL in 2012 and I couldn't imagine driving with a 3 and a 1 yo. Even though the Galt doesn't have an indoor pool, I booked there so my wife wouldn't have to walk far with them to-from the finish line.

It is a close race regionally, and the right time of year for people in Michigan. Especially those of us who do not have use of a pool, and are living at the whim of Michigan weather. We are going to stay at the Galt also, it is way too convenient. I'm not traveling with young ones though, so we don't have to worry about entertaining young ones.

Good luck Sunday! The weather is looking like it will cooperate, especially for you aqua bikers who will be done 2 hours earlier and won't have to worry as much about the heat! At the very least it looks like the high for the day is dropping. Last Sunday it predicted 91 for the race.... and yes, I've been weather stalking since the 10 day forecast popped up
