I'd like to get a rear view mirror for my bike. Interested what kind (helmet vs bars) folks here have used and their 2 cents worth. BTW I have drop bars on the steed

A lot of guys in the group rides I do have mirrors on their drop bars instead of the plug. Seems to work well.

I had a bar-mounted mirror for a while, but the road vibrations would make it gradually move, so it required constant re-adjustment. Further, it only provided one perspective. I switched to a helmet-based mirror and am much happier. It doesn't move, but I can cock my head in different directions to get a different view of the road.

Most of the roads around here don't have paved shoulders and it's pretty common for drivers to not give you any berth when passing, so I wouldn't ride without a mirror ever.

I have a mirror that clips to the earpiece of my sunglasses. I never ride without sunglasses (I have a pair that I can swap lenses around in, dark for really sunny days and lighter for overcast) so this option works well for me. However, if you're riding at night and don't want to wear sunglasses, this obviously won't work for you. I never ride at night, so for me it's not an issue.

Just a PSA......some races & organizations have recently implemented rules not allowing mirrors during races........with it resulting in a DQ if caught. Some of these changes were put in place a few years ago after a big uproar over some notorious "cheaters" who were thought to be racing with mirrors to keep track of officials on motorcycles rather than for safety purposes.

Just read the rules for your events and remember to remove it before race day if it's not allowed.

I've used the Cycleaware Reflex helmet mirror for years.

It's a pretty good product, the only problems I've had is the mounting bracket may eventually peel off. So I use the 3M double mounting tape to fix that.
And eventually the mirror may become too loose in the swivel. Being fairly cheap, I just replace it periodically.

I really think more cyclists should wear a mirror, the "dork" factor is most likely why they won't wear it, but for my logic, the safety advantage is well worth the social stigma.

btw, used only during training !!
