Pre-race routine:

WaWa coffee, banana, half a powerbar
Event warmup:

Stretched
Swim
  • 08m 52s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam decent despite zigzagging a little. Some trouble passing a group of 3 or 4 guys all in a row across.
What would you do differently?:

Start a little further up in the heat.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Took my good ol time in T1. All of my stuff was in a trash bag to keep it dry. Fought the wetsuit briefly around the bottom of the legs.
What would you do differently?:

Ditch the wetsuit, I only put it on because I was wet and freezing.
Bike
  • 35m 29s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.60 mile/hr
Comments:

I kept my cadence up around 90 for most of the ride. Wind gust plus a little uphill was enough to knock my speed down a little once or twice. This was my first race with the new bike that I built over the winter. I have been messin with the fit all season and it was perfect yesterday.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder!
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

I'm not sure why my T2 time is so slow, can only think I wasn't running hard with the bike on the wet roads.
Run
  • 23m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the ugly part. I went out kinda slow as my run training has been light and slow for the last few weeks. My ITband had been fine for the past month or so. I thought if I felt good at the turnaround I would negative split the run. As I approached the turnaround my ITband decided to tighten up and I was running in pain. I slowed down and basically jogged back to the end. I was able to finish a little stronger than a jog, but my knee was killing me.
What would you do differently?:

Not run with ITBS.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a little, packed up and went home to get dry!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ITBS and only 5 weeks of training.

Event comments:

I did this race a few years ago and remember it being an organized race. They put on a good race yesterday and I give em credit for running the race in a tropical storm. Conditions being as they were I am ok with my performance considering the ITBS flare-up and only 5 weeks of training. I have to get the ITband figured out over the winter, work on my old bikes and build a good base for next year. No running for this guy for a while. Sorry I didn't meet up with any BTers. Will make more of an effort next year.

That's still a good run with your ITB flaring up. You also had the breakfast of champions, WAWA. Great race.
