Subject: RE: Plan for first time 70.3 IM? I think it's fine to use a plan from a website or a book for an Ironman 70.3. In fact, I could probably list several advantages for following a plan from a book versus hiring a coach.
Coaching is great. It gives you somebody to ask specific questions and lead the way. But if you are motivated enough to follow a plan - and independent enough to train alone (or you already have a training group ) it's a great way to do it.
Think about all the people who run their first half marathons and marathons using Hal HIgdon's plans. They are great and they're free.
Don Fink - good stuff. There is a matching Facebook group that is very supportive with people using the plans. Matt Fitzgerald the Training Bible a book - very comprehensive plans. You can get a training plan from Training Peaks from very well known coaches including Mark Allen for a few hundred dollars. There are lots of options.
