Hello all! My names Curtis, I'm 22 from Miami, Florida and looking to participate in the 2016 ironman in October. This will be my first triathlon. I have no previous experience in triathlons, marathons, etc. But I am fit, my biggest downfall is my running. I'm fast but only for short distances, i.e. 2-3 miles. I have no experience running further than 4 miles. I ride road bike frequently anywhere from 20-60 miles at a time. Usually 1-3 times a week. Current pace being anywhere from 14-19. My swimming is also pretty strong, most of it being with the combat side stroke. I swim a 500 in around 9:30. Just looking for any information I might not already know. Can't wait! I'm working hard on the run so I can finish strong! Just hoping to get it done!! Not going into this thinking I'm going place even decent, just want to race amongst the best. Thanks! -curtis

Welcome! I highly recommend you do a sprint triathlon first before you think about signing up for an Ironman. Not saying that it can't be done as your first race, but most people take a few years to work up to an Ironman. Maybe try to do an Olympic distance later this year.

I'd recommend working on your freestyle swim. That speed isn't bad for combat side stroke, but just about everyone else will do freestyle, which is faster, all other things being equal.
