Subject: Touring tires
Ride tires are thin and have little to no tread on them so they have less resistance and in turn a person rides faster. However some touring tires are almost as smooth and have very little tread on them. Has anyone ever thought to put on touring tires? Do they last longer? Do they handle better in the rain, etc.? Are they less susceptible to flats?

I ask because I haven't replaced my road bike tires in about two years and I've read some, I repeat some, touring tires can come close to road bike tires.

Thoughts?

Touring tires will be SIGNIFICANTLY slower. It's much more to it then the tread pattern. Rubber compound and the composition of the tire determines rolling resistance and how a tire handles.

Get a good pair of road tires instead, Continental GP4000S II would be my first choice.
