Subject: Buying and selling new triathlon gear?
Does anyone have any advice for buying and selling triathlon gear in the Beginner Triathlete Classifieds to protect both buyer and seller?

Protect from what?  Fraud?  Someone knowing your real name?

The is BT, not Craigslist.  If you can't trust people on the Internet, who can you trust?

Post counts, participation in the community, etc... I've had a lot of dealings on the ST classifieds, various other cycling boards, and never had an issue that wasn't resolved quickly and to both party's satisfaction. Ebay? Not so much. Craigslist? I've sold a few things, bought a few things, but have dealt with a lot of spam emails and no-shows. I keep my dealings to boards with a sense of community. That's your protection.

I haven't done this on BT but have done a lot of trading around with folks on the hunting forums I frequent. As has been said by another post on this thread, you can get a sense of how involved someone is with the community on this board and how "legit" they seem from reading old posts. Would I ship a $3,000 bike to someone I didn't know from Adam? Probably not. An item that is worth $25-250? I'd take that chance after vetting as described above.

The only issue I've ever had was when I was trying to give away some clip-on aerobars on the "Pay it Forward" forum to the first person that responded.  One person got pissy with me when I told them they weren't the first to respond and I had already shipped the item to someone else.  They told me I "owed" them the aerobars and on top of that, they wanted them shipped overnight so they could use them in a race the following weekend...

I've been buying/selling online since 1996. I've sold hundreds of hunting and sports-related items on the internet.

I've been screwed out of money ONCE in all those years.......................and it was by someone on this site.

Go figure.

We are often asked the question, "What size frame should I buy" and the answer is “it depends”. I know that’s not the answer you want to hear, but hopefully the following will shed some more light.

Well I said that I was not going to do it this season, but I cracked. I broke down and bought a new bike. I went out and bought a shiny new Cannondale road bike.
