Event comments:

After the Sungai Liat Olympic tri I came down with something flu like.

It only lasted a couple of days but Yanti had already been sick for over a month and didn't even do the sprint at Sungai Liat.

I decided that it might not be a good idea to try doing a half ironman in the searing heat of Vietnam (last year it was 40C to 45C on the run course) coming off an illness and unfit.

So we reluctantly cancelled that part of our trip.

So sorry that I didn't get to see you and Yanti again! But that was probably the best decision if you were both sick.... This year was relatively "cooler", maybe only 33 or 34 (but more humid, I think). The wind picked up earlier in the day, so it was more of a factor on the bike--winds plus course changes meant we were riding into the wind a lot more; plus the wind was in your face on the inbound part of the run. On the plus side, that cooled things off a bit. Swim was also quite interesting as the same wind was pushing the current strongly against the swimmers on the long side of the T. Plus larger shore break and the jellyfish. It was definitely a tough day at the office, but at least not as hot!

If you and Yanti need an ego boost.....Belinda Granger was giving a talk and she said that Clayton Fettel dropped out at 2K last year because (he told her) he thought, "It was not humanly possible to run 21 km in those conditions." So you, Yanti, and I are superhuman!

It's not easy to cancel something for which you've trained, but the good decisions in the short term help keep long term goals possible. Good call

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
