Overall Rank = 34/312
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 6/37
Pre-race routine:

up at 3:30, gave myself plenty of time to get ready...went to bed early to get plenty of sleep.
Event warmup:

racked bike and set up transition
  • 10m 11s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards

started at the very front. had a good feeling that I would have a good swim. feel like my swim has improved this year. have always been comfortable in all swims just never really felt I was getting faster in the past. started out faster than normal to get ahead of the pack and then settled in to good pace. the first 5 or 6 of us came out of the water with a pretty good lead from the rest of the chase group
What would you do differently?:

not a thing
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s

my chip strap broke in 1 spot so I felt my chip dangling while running to my bike. I stopped for about :20 sec to make sure it would hold up the rest of the race. lost a little time doing this but I wanted to be sure it was ok
What would you do differently?:

not a thing
  • 33m 4s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.77 mile/hr

bike is def the weakest of the 3 disciplines for me..i felt like this was one of my better efforts. I haven't done a sprint since 2011 so was interested to see how it felt to ride with pretty good effort
What would you do differently?:

maybe try to power thru it harder...just don't want to ever tap into my run bank too deep
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s

had a really good dismount and racking the bike....
What would you do differently?:

  • 21m 32s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile

really felt good on the run...I knew I had a few guys to hunt down that passed me on the bike but really wasn't sure how many there were...haven't done a sprint since 2011 so It was awesome to haul some tail in the run..
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

water water...stood around for a bit to get results...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

just getting back in to training this march leading up to imtx 70.3...haven't really don't too much training since the race in april..

started doing TRX with a trainer 2 times a week a month ago and it has really helped in all 3 disciplines

Most people could do this, probably much faster than I could. But the beauty of the event was the energy, to be around so many people who are so motivated and goal-oriented.
