Ran a bit and then waited in school bc it was cold

A little faster than in training so good
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Bike
  • 1h 10m 31s
  • 20.5 miles
  • 17.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Never really felt it on the bike. First half was pretty slow; North wind, so that's part of it. CR1 had a decent tailwind, so I managed 19-20 mph but not enough to make up time for the first half.

Ate one gu on the bike in St Stephen. too little too late? Probably needed two on bike.
What would you do differently?:

More bike practice
Eat Gu at end of first run and then another around CR 1
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

cramped pulling off bike shoes--bad sign
Run
  • 29m 32s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Cramped quads for almost all of the run. Just kept moving, not too fast or slow, walked water stops to see if would help but not really. Not what I hoped for but not bad either.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out why I cramp.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a while. went to help with the wrap up.
Don't forget to eat right afterward--ate a bar and banana and lots of water but was headachy by the time we finished cleaning up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was well trained for the run and the first one was great. It was just cramps that hurt the second. The bike never felt very good--even with the tailwind I was hurting. I biked maybe 4 times before the race, so that could be a good reason.

Event comments:

Hardest race on the calendar. Super well organized, but I could be biased :)

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

My first duathlon was a success. I had so many fears before the race but none of those fears happened. And when it was all over, I felt I had accomplished something big.
