Age Group Rank = 7/9
  • 44m 26s
  • 2000 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters

I was happy with my swimming results. I have only done this distance in the pool. I found my groove in the first 200 meters and kept going.
Transition 1
  • 03m 21s
  • 3h 07m 54s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.88 mile/hr

First time doing this distance non-stop. I have done long rides with FAST but there was a stop usually at mile 35.
The only real issue I had started just before the turn around point. I was uncomfortable in my saddle. IMO, I hindered me from doing my best since I could never get comfortable
What would you do differently?:

New bike saddle, a must!!
Transition 2
  • 05m 18s

With trying to get 8 bikes on a 10 foot rack made it difficult since I had to move other bikes to get on.
  • 3h 08m 12s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 14m 22s  min/mile

I just sucked it. I was trying to run/walk for 9 minutes but my legs wouldn't allow it. By mile 5 I was done. I couldn't do anything but walk the rest. I forced myself to obligatory jog in the last .1 mile.
What would you do differently?:

More running, longer running.
Post race
Warm down:

Continued to walk around. Got more fluids into me. I had a slice of pizza and some pop.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My knee, which prevented me from running as much I as should have.

Event comments:

Great race. I will be doing this next year with nothing but revenge in mind. I know I can do better, much better. Just need to make some changes.

Is it realistic to race a sprint and Olympic distance race within 2-3 weeks of one another to gauge my progress before tackling the half Ironman?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

If a heart patient can do these things, then so can those of you who haven't been split open like a fish and sewn back together.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

Inclusion is the key, with elements of the ride fulfilling the training and social needs of 95% of the membership. We have found that course selection, leadership have been the keys.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
