Subject: Pedals & Cleats question
I'm assuming everyone uses the same (at least type) pedals on their tri bike and road bike......but, I have no idea if that's true. I can think of one obvious advantage (convenience of being able to utilize the same shoes on both). I really can't think of any disadvantages.

Thought I'd ask before I purchase.

Thanks.

I use speedplay pedals, and yes I have them on both bikes. Only have one pair of bike shoes.

I use Shimano PD-M520 SPD pedals on my mountain bike, commuter bike and road/tri bike. I have one pair of shoes. I have enough pairs of running shoes, I don't think I need another 3 different pairs of biking shoes.

Ideally, you do want as many of your pedal systems as possible to be compatible and similar.

But that said, my main trainer bike is a monster cross bike which is mostly taken off pavement. So I use shimano SPD pedals there. And then on the race bike, I use Shimano road pedals.

So I have 3 sets of shoes:
- one 3 velcro strap shimano MTB shoes (training)
- one 3 velcro strap shimano road shoes (any training rides on the race bike)
- and one single velcro strap shimano tri shoes (for racing)

Maybe that is too many many, but it works and seems to be a good mix of versatility and utility.

I use Shimano SPD-SL on my road and TT bike, Egg Beater Candy's for my CX and mountain bike.  I do have 6 pairs of bike shoes though...

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
