....well, sort of maybe. I've had two starbucks gift cards in my wallet for probably a year, maybe more. I never use them. They probably have $20 a piece on them, but it could be $1.50, or it could be expired...who knows. But to the winner go the spoils!! I'll happily mail them to whomever gets the closest (within the cont US). I never go to Starbucks and I'm tired of them being in my wallet.

Some notes:
Race is this Sunday - IM Buffalo Springs 70.3
My last HIM was B2B and I finished 4:55 last October
This race will be hotter, hillier and windier, but it will be wetsuit legal (spring fed lake)
More climbing than I'm used to. I normally do about 500' of climbing on a long ride (50-60 miles) the bike course has 1,500' of climbing.
B2B was before my bike focus which I've seen some pretty good gains
I've heard from more than a few people that this is a very tough course...it is the desert after all.

Ok....go!

I'll go a side $20 that your swim (wetsuit or not) will not be as fast as B2B.

5:09.34. I think you gained too much weight over the winter and are going to dog it...5:09 for me would be a PR by 30 minutes though. Good luck.

They've changed the run course since I raced there two years ago -- I think it's now less elevation change, but all down by the water so hot, humid, and not a lot of wind.  I have a pretty good estimate for your swim and bike, but run's a bit of a wildcard.

I'm going with 5:00:35.  Even with big improvements to your bike, this is a hard course with even more challenging conditions.  Keep hydrated and be confident staying in aero even if you're leaning over at 30 degrees just to stay upright!

    Sure, I'll play.

Swim will probably be a bit slower due to conditions. The race will be hillier, hotter, and windier than B2B. You feel better on the bike. And, rumor has it that you may be meeting up with some guys for beer on Saturday night.

    So, after much consideration, 5:03:01.

    5.22

Heat and hills can add a lot of time. My mate ran a 4.29 at Busso last year - cool, flat and fast and then did a 5.35 at the 2015 World champs - hot and hilly. If the conditions are tough one of the worst things you can do is become fixated on a time.

With a hectic schedule and the desire to throw in other forms of exercise, I went from following one of the training programs to doing my own. Would it be better to follow a training plan?

The optimal number of times you should weight train is dependant on the time of year, how close you are to your A race, and which training cycle you are in.

Should I have time goals for the first sprint? Should I just finish the race at a reasonable pace? I'm not sure how to approach this.

We triathletes are a lucky lot. We have the time and the resources to enjoy a sport that is time consuming and can be very expensive. I take this opportunity to reflect on my good fortune.

A few factors are at the basis of increasing running speed. In my experience these factors are: variety, “pain,” time and injury prevention.

Many people in the triathlon world think they need to just emulate Ian Thorpe to have a faster time, or have a similar stroke to Michael Phelps to cruise through the swim. Unfortunately...
