Oops, I just replied on the June thread and asked if you were upping the ante for July.

I guess since you did, I will too. I am going to ride at least 150 miles this month.

I'm in again. Now that I've started back up might as well keep going, right?

I don't have an overall distance goal for July but I would like to build my distance total up. My longest ride in June was 30 miles-ish. So would love to clock a 40-45 mile in this month.

Shooting to continue to build my endurance to were my legs don't feel so fatigued all the time.

That's a great idea! I think my longest ride has been 25 miles, so I am going to try to do a 30 mile ride this month.

So far I've done 56 miles this month. I haven't done a long ride yet. I have done two bike / run bricks though. Mileage is going to be a bit lighter for the next week I think, as my race is in one week. That said, I think i am going to go to the bike part of the course tomorrow morning and go up the hill once or twice. According to my phone, it goes up about 250' in a bit over 2 miles. For Indiana, that's a pretty big hill

Didn't make it to the hill this morning, but I did get in the long ride I was wanting to do this month. I got in a 31 mile ride this morning/ afternoon and then I followed it up with a 1 mile run. . Brings my total to 87 for the month so far. Anyone else making progress?

Was shooting for 40 miles yesterday almost made it before busting a tire. 37.46 miles averaged about 16.5 miles per hour. Was really impressed with myself. Now to get the tire repaired and keep plugging away. Hope everyone has an excellent week.

The race I am doing this weekend is my first ever triathlon and it's a sprint. It's 400m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run. I am feeling fairly good about the swim and the bike, but not so much about the run. We shall see how it turns out.

I didn't get on the bike today, opting for a short swim instead. The way the weather is supposed to be for the next few days, I may not get back on it til race day. Looks like a lot of indoor track running the next few days.

That's a bummer about the tire. Last one I had I was only a mile from home and had all the stuff needed to replace it. Only problem was I didn't have the pump to inflate it; it was on the other bike

Well so far for the month I am just shy of 100 miles (99.something). I thought about riding to the end of the street and back to get it to 100, but thought it would be my luck I'd get a flat and I only have one spare tube.

Are you two getting close to your goals?

Logged another 20 miles this am was originally only planning to do 15 but thought I'd take a different way back and forgot one of the streets didn't go all the way through. oopsie, still a great ride though! Going to shoot for another long one on Sunday. Considering signing up for an Olympic tri on that's taking place on 09/18.... It would be my first one in 6 years.... We'll see

Well, I made it through my first triathlon. I did a review of it; it's the Valpo Triathlon. I didn't quite make the times I was shooting for. I was a few minutes slower on the bike and quite a bit slower on the run. Considering I never did one before, I think I guessed my time OK (I was 6 minutes off of what I wanted to finish in)

When I got there this morning, there was an elderly lady that was asking around if the bike shop's tent was there yet. She had a flat tire before the race even started. After waiting around for the bike shop to show up (they finally did about 15 minutes before the race started), I helped her get the tire off her rim, and was getting ready to install the new tube when a presumably more experienced guy butted in and finished the job for her. I picked up a few pointers from him that I hope to be able to recall down the road when needed. We had a heck of a time finding a pump though. I have a hand one on my bike, but it doesn't really work all that well. The other guy found one about 5 minutes before we had to go to the water for the pre-race briefing.

I saw the lady after the race and probably thanked me a dozen more times and introduced me to a lot of her friends as the nice guy that fixed her bike for her. But I didn't really fix anything; it was the other guy.

Anyhow, I am up to 112 miles for the month including the 12.5 for today's race.

Have a great weekend,

J White

Awesome job on the race!

I got another 25 miles in on Sunday. I did my long run Saturday morning and my legs where feeling pretty shot so knew I wasn't going to hit 40 this past week. Planning on doing 2 shorter rides this week then going for a long one on Saturday in hopes of hitting 40. It's more a mental game at this point I feel like. That's a long time to be on the road alone....I just need to get past that.

Great job in reaching your monthly goal so early! I think yesterday I also met my goal for the month. Last night after dinner my 10 year old daughter and I went out for a bike ride. I was planning on doing 8 miles with her, but when we got the bridge (about 2 3/4 miles) we were able to see a nasty storm rolling in off the lake. We turned around and pedaled as fast as we could to get home before we got soaked. We made it by less than 5 minutes. Before we left the weather said no rain til Thursday...

It's nice to take the old Schwinn out every now and again and just relax. Sometimes when we go out we'll stop and say "hi" to the horses or play at the park. I keep thinking we should pack a few sandwiches and eat at one of the picnic tables they have on the trail, but we haven't made it to that point yet. Perhaps this weekend.

I think I am going to try for 40 more miles this month. That will bring my total to 200 for July.

Tuesday I rode the old Schwinn to the ice cream shop and back. That's a bit over 6 miles roundtrip, so it negated some of the calories consumed

I may try for another 12 mile ride this afternoon. I think I am at about 180 for the month. My other two sports are starting to shape up for monthly totals too. As usual, the run is a bit neglected. I am getting in more sessions since my race, but shorter distances. (I'm trying to build more speed) Once I get to where I can run 2 miles in under 20 minutes, I am going to start doing intervals to try to get that balance of speed and endurance.

Today I have to go to the store and buy juice for our daughter's swim team. Gotta love a party like this; could be between a dozen and forty kids showing up.

Have a great day, and finish the month strong!

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.
