I've signed up for the Innsbrook Halfmax, but I really haven't found that many race reports to gauge what I've gotten myself into. I know that it's tough/hilly, but I wonder if anyone has any other local tris to offer as comparison (Alligator Creek, Ballwin, St. Peters, etc).

I've only done the sprint at Innsbrook but the bike and run are both hilly.  Probably the closest comparison would be Alligator's Creek.  The bike course is pretty hilly while you're in the resort area, but once you get out onto the main road it's more just rolling hills.  Parts of the course I'm not sure about since I haven't done the longer distance.  The run is also pretty hilly but a lot of it is shaded so it's not too bad.  Just be aware that it's not all paved - there is a short (1/4 mile maybe?) "trail/CC" section at the beginning/end and some gravel roads.

I think I wrote pretty detailed race reports - somehow can be found in my profile -  after doing all of them in the area a shamefully long time ago.  But it likely is still valuable.

Innsbrook is a doozy, no matter how you cut it, in my opinion.  A really fun challenge!

Best,

Brandon

Thanks for the insight. I've been doing the hills around where I live (basically unavoidably either uphill or downhill), so hopefully I won't be caught off guard.

just in case it wasn't simple to find.  I haven't been around here much in about 5 or 6 years!

I hope there's something in there you'll find useful.  I was quite the dramatic race report writer!

I did enjoy your race report. In fact, I think I've even read it before. I guess the weather will have to do quite a bit of cooling down between now and then to make wetsuits feasible. I'll be doing Lake St. Louis later this month and I'm doubtful a wetsuit will be necessary.

Wow, it was tough. Even with training on hills I was not expecting the run to be that STEEP. Honestly, there were points where I thought I should be hiking. If you're interested in the Race Report:

Overall, it was a challenging first 70.3...but I'd do it again.
