Total Time = 07m 30s
Overall Rank = 2/5
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 2/5
Pre-race routine:

Got around 5 after getting home from a concert downtown at midnight. Ate banana and had red bull. Packed the car and off I went.
Event warmup:

Got my package, saw a woman who looked like BT Legend Whizzz (only know her from her blog) but was too starstruck to say hi. Met a racer named Larry and we had a good talk. This was nice because usually I don't know anyone at race and if I do they are usually with a group of people. Racked my bike, walked around, took my usual nerrvousness potty breaks.
Run
  • 18m 18s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

The hills killed me. I was hoofing and poofing the whole way around. Carrying this fat is killing me!!!
What would you do differently?:

Run hills, lose weight, eat right, need I go on??
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

I am surprised I was this fast (?) in the transition. I like to take my team.
What would you do differently?:

Don't fart around in the transition area.
Bike
  • 43m 9s
  • 20 kms
  • 27.81 km/hr
Comments:

Goddamn hills. Felt like I riding in molasses. How many mountain bikes passed me? DId say heollo to BT Super Legend Whizz on the bike. Most have seemed like a psycho when I shouted out to her. Sorry! There seemed to be some fog around but it may been smoke. Maybe that screwed up my times?? Yeah that is it!
What would you do differently?:

Ride my bike more. More hills. Less weight on my belly
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Hey look at that, under 2 mintues. I was dead and wanted nothing to do with running by had to follow the rules of the duathlon.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 19m 15s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew this would suck so I decided to walk some but then I said well the hell it is only 2 miles. So I kept going but very slow. I only picked up the pace at the end to show off. But I probably looked like I was going in slow motion.
What would you do differently?:

If I say lose weight one more time - shoot me!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, sat down, tried to get my heart to stop racing. Grabbed some water and a banana. Talked to Larry again. Got my bike and headed home to take daughter to soccer game.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Guess?

Event comments:

I love small town races. Very good competitors. Nice people and you are in the open.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

My first duathlon was a success. I had so many fears before the race but none of those fears happened. And when it was all over, I felt I had accomplished something big.

"I was wondering if this is a sensible approach? Should I get "better" on short distance and then move to something longer or do what I want if I feel I can do it whatever the time?"

Bricks refer to training on two disciplines during the same workout.
