I have a 2-door car and I think I have gotten fed up with having to pull seats down and take my front wheel off my bikes just to get it into the back of the car.

I want to get a tow hitch and a 2-bike carrier. Curious to know if there is a well known type of hitch that many of you use. When I look online, I see so many different styles and costs, not sure which direction to go.

Also...any recommendations on bike carrier brands would be great too. I know about Saris and Thule...but if anyone has an opinion of one vs. the other, would appreciate the feedback you can provide.

Thanks,

Etrailer.com is pretty good.

2" has way more options than 1.5"

Anything from Yakima or Thule will be good

What type of car?

I use a Thule 3 bike - hitch (tow bar) carrier - nice and solid on the back

etrailer is going to be your best source of information.

Would you want a trunk mount rack?

e-trailer without a doubt.  We have a  hitch on a VW Jetta that came from them.....perfect.  After that you have a pretty wide variety of racks you can choose from.  We use a Thule rack.....fairly cheap but holds up well.

If you only need a 2 bike rack, the Kuat Sherpa is pretty sweet.  It's (relatively) light so one person can easily manage mounting or removing it.  I don't load up my bike very often so I prefer to just remove the rack in the offseason.

I have a truck but still prefer my trailer hitch over anything else. I had a smaller SUV before and got a hitch that bolted directly to the frame and man was that thing a pain to get on there. I had to put the car on a lift at my neighbors house and have someone hold each side so I could put the bolts on. My only advice would be next time you're at your mechanic for whatever reason see if they'll throw it on the car for a couple bucks.

As other have said, e-trailer are pretty good. You can also get one from u-haul that are usually cheaper and just as good. I got one from u-hail (2 inch) and a yakima tray style 2 bike carrier. Nice little set up!

I love my Kuat rack. It only weighs 30 lbs so I can easily put it on myself. Its not cheap though. We bought it at REI when they had their 20% off sale and used some credit card points that we converted into gift cards.

I'll 2nd the 1UP USA racks. I've had many racks over the years and this is by far my favorite. My 2nd favorite is the Kuat.
