Pre-race routine:

Got there right on time and signed in. Ate some Sports Beans and drank some h2o
Event warmup:

5k jog (ok run) with Mark. Actually even pace and z2-3 runs.
Swim
  • 24m 39s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

This swim started kinda funny with no real warning except the "go". I immediately got kicked square in the teeth. Tried to draft from the guy in front of me, but he was ALL over the place and finally just took an inside route without much resistance. On the second lap I pulled 2 other people the entire time. I tried to get them to go around me, then I tried to speed up and drop them, but that just tired me out!!
What would you do differently?:

I was pretty tired from swimming the day before and from the water skiing over the weekend. I should have just dead stopped and then drafted from the 2 others that I ended up pulling.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

I actually completely fell over trying to get my wetsuit off my legs. By that point I just gave up and slowly pulled the darn thing off. I was pretty disoriented for some reason.
What would you do differently?:

slow down coming out of the water??
Run
  • 26m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt AWFUL for the first mile. I couldn't even think about form because I could barely keep my feet going. Once I got over the hill, I relaxed and was able to keep a decent pace and just think about form. After the turn, I felt better so I slowly sped up. I guess I didn't realize how MUCH I sped up... I started feeling bad with about 1/4 mile to go and puked twice in the last 3-400 meters. Looking at my HR and speed I now see why... I didn't realize it, but I got up to 6:20 pace and my HR pretty quickly went from 185ish to 198ish. Peaked at 199 at puke time... Oooops! Oh and those Orange sports beans are NOT my favorite anymore. They are pretty gross on the way back up.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention. I have a GPS and could have checked my pace as soon as I started feeling bad. There was NO reason for me to run that fast. I didn't think I was, but apparantly, I thought I was someone else...
Post race
Warm down:

just recoup walk and talk. Lots of socializing and a little drinking once I felt better.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Water skiing and dehydration from the weekend. Fatigue, water temp, who knows!!

Event comments:

Definately do this series next year!!! Always a fun time, but sad to see most of these guys for the last time this season :(
