Not quite as gross as it sounds...

I am typically not a real heavey sweater and have never been one to sweat out to much salt.

Last night however the last 2 miles of my workout I was sweating quite heavily. It wasnt that warm, probably only 75 degrees. When I got home I had a pretty thick layer of salt on my arms and legs. NOT NORMAL FOR ME!

It was a hrad workout. Race distance brick, 25 mile bike 6 mile run but I have done the exact workout before.

Is it possible for my body to change like this and should I now start worrying about salt replacement?

I had real bad cramps in my back muscles after the workout. The weird thing about that was that I took about 10 oz of powerade and had 2 gels with electrolytes during the workout.

I'm guessing the relative humidity was pretty low. When the air's dry, sweat evaporates quickly leaving the salt residue. When it's humid, sweat doesn't evaporate much and there's no residue.

Jim makes a good point. I live in Houston (read: most humid place on earth) and just the last week or so the humidity has been coming down. On our long ride last weekend I noticed a lot of salt on me and in my hair which I have never noticed before. That could be the issue.

Not really a problem here in the inland Northwest.

Typical RH hovers around 25% to 35%. Around here if RH gets up over 40% everyone is crying about it being "muggy" (I hate that word). I spent almost 2 years in Alabama and know all about humidity after that experience.

Looking at 2 day hourly observations the RH during my workout last night was between 27% to 34%. VERY normal for us.
