I need some advise on some Fundraising techniques. I have signed up for Team In Training for the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving day. I need to raise $1200 by that time. I have asked my friends and co-workers but haven't gotten anything as of yet and have asked numerous times and I don't want to anger anyone. Does anyone have any advise on how to raise money through there own experiences?

Does your business match donations...Or is your boss or business willing to pay 1200 or even half that 600 for a tax break.

Welcome to the Team! How's your letter-writing campaign going?

There are *so* many things you can do. Have a poker night, take half of the entry fees and by a Best Buy gift card for the winner, keep the other for the LLS. Have a happy hour at a bar, charge a cover for your fund raising. Date auction. Car wash. Stand in front of Wal Mart and ask for change. Sell pizzas/doughnuts at work.

Talk to your Mentor...he or she would love to help.

Why should they give to you? I know I have people asking me for donations daily. Make it personal, let them know why you are doing this and why they should support you.

As Jim said, your mentor and your chapter can be valuable resources.

Hold a fund raising event. Many people in my area that did TNT did a wine tasting...most wineries will donate a bottle...then you charge x amount of dollars to friends. Often people won't give to charity but they will pay to go to a charity event. Jamba Juice also will allow you to put out a donation jar on their counter. At least the ones in my area. Have a group garage sale / ebay sale. Have your friends donate items they want to get rid of, then sell them at a flea market or garage sale.

Not sure if any of these will work for you.

It's all in the phrasing for instance instead of

"Wouldn't you like to give to charity?" try...

"How about making a donation to the Me-Not-Brutally-Beating-and-Mugging-You Fund?"

Congrats on joining TNT!  I finduraised 3 years in a row for TNT and always went over my fundraising min.  So you shouldn't have any problems- the key is to start early.  I'm sure your mentor will be able to give you some ideas.  Start with a letter writing campaign and then coordinate other events from there.  Here's what I did this past season- it was the quickest and easiest way to fundriase!

And oh yeah- don't be afriad to ask people for money.  If you don't ask you'll never know. And you'd be surprised at how generous people can be when you just ask.
