Event warmup:

Ran for 10 min, stretched, swatted away some mosquitos, set up transition area, more swatting, a brief swim, followed by more swatting...glad I had my wetsuit on as that gave some protection from the thirsty little blood-suckers (& I need every red blood cell I can get!)

Comments:

Time is based on official time of 21:51 - 1:41 from my watch for T1.

Rated this as a "Good" performance because I managed not to completely freak out during it. Instead of having the "what the he!! am I doing here and why isn't that buoy getting any closer?" panic 25m into the swim, it didn't set in until ~250m. Plus I figured out that if I just stop and tread water for a bit, that more effectively brings my heart rate and freak out level down than does switching to another stroke.
What would you do differently?:

Sighting - instead of swimming a straight out and back course, I felt like I swam a big circle.

Get more comfortable with OWS, especially when the buoys are pretty widely spaced like they are in this course.

Learn to swim harder now that I am more comfortable in the water.
Transition 2

Comments:

Didn't try to rush things here. Felt kind of nauseous.

Comments:

Felt okay the first mile, though still a bit nauseous. No idea what happened in the second mile, then felt pretty good for the last 1.1 miles. For some reason I find it harder to run after swimming than after swimming + biking - go figure.
What would you do differently?:

Not much really, maybe not swaloow as much water in the swim? I wasn't trying to set a PR here (though it was my best 5K in this series).
Post race
Warm down:

Swatting away mosquitos

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming ability; slacking off training in the last couple of weeks due to travel etc. Still, this was 6 minutes faster than the first time I did this race.

Event comments:

It was definitely a good choice to do these races this year. Each time I learned a lot that helped me in my "real" races.
