First, a little background. I am a runner and cyclist and routinely do 1/2 marathons and 100k rides. Swimming is my weakness as can barely make it past 50yrds. I do have Masters Swimming program available near by but would first need to build up to 200yds before I could join.

Am I crazy to think I can build up to 1500m by June 2017?

That can be very easily accomplished if you swim regularly.  Get swimming.

Agreed with LB, no problem at all.  Get started now and spend lots of time in the pool.

Certainly you can do it. Like the previous two said, get your butt in the pool.

Also, know that the run is going to be a whole different animal than an open 10k. Get several brick workouts in. Let us know how training and the race go.

I'll third what LB and Arend said, and go even further.  With some help from a knowledgeable swimming instructor / coach on the pool deck or in the water, someone with the general fitness you describe can typically be ready for 1,500m in less than 2 months.

If it helps, I went from weighting 337 lbs, no swimming experience, not being able to walk more then a mile and being a very amateur cyclist to finishing my first Olympic triathlon (slow time! but no DNF!) in 6 months. At the time I weighted 270 lbs. So yes very doable!

Total Immersion swimming was the key for learning to perpetually swim for me.

I have pedals with the cage and when I ride 2+ hours my legs feel much more tired then if I took out my husband's bike with clipless pedals. Do clipless pedals truly make the difference?

Is one month enough time to recover from my first marathon to go and do my first olympic tri? My alternative options are to do the 1/2 marathon and then do the olympic.
