Swim
What would you do differently?: Swim in a lake! Transition 1
Comments: Um, I am a retard. I put my socks on before getting on the bike. I have no idea why I did this- but they were nice n soggy in my bike shoes, and my running shoes. :( What would you do differently?: Practice transitions!! Bike
Comments: Hm, I have a hard time believing I went that slow. Maybe it was slightly longer than 4 miles? Also, we had like 6 U-turns to make, and going up a large bridge. I still think I went about 20 mph the whole way. Hm. Other than that, bike went really well- I made a mental note not to KILL the bike, so I had something left for the run portion. Transition 2
Comments: Good T2, grabbed a swig of gatorade, my race belt and shoes, and I was off. I felt really hydrated, so that was a good sign that I drank enough on the bike. Run
Comments: Great run for me! And you know what? I felt good during it too- I think the things that made this run good was: 1. Drank plenty of water during the bike. I had to force myself to drink every 2 miles or so, b/c I knew if I didn't, I'd be dehydrated on the run. 2. Moderate amount of shade on the course 3. Didn't go "balls to the wall" on the bike like I normally do- wanted to save something for the run 4. Tried to keep the legs moving at a higher turnover, especially running up the bridge Post race
Warm down: Walked to the bathroom- man, did I have to pee - another sign of my good hydration plan. :) Ate 2 slices of watermelon and drank a water bottle. Loaded up the car and left. I thought about staying for the awards ceremony since I got 3rd place, but I just wanted to get home and take a shower. I didn't want to wait around while the last people finished. Maybe they can mail me my hardware. :) Event comments: Great race- one I'd definitely do again next year. Only about 300 participants, so it's kinda nice to do a smaller tri every now and then. I only had 4 people in my AG, but that's going to change next year when I enter the 25-30 AG. Yikes! More competition! I was really excited also, that I was 33 out of 90 women overall. There were some really ultrafit women out there- gave me some good motivation to keep working out! Last updated: 2006-09-10 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5 a.m., ate oatmeal and banana. Loaded stuff in car and drove 30 mins to Lake Worth. This was the first race I went alone to - usually I have Barry with me, but since he's gone this month- I'm on my own! It was actually surprisingly nice to not have anyone else there...I could focus on getting my T-area set up and not worrying about where to meet him before the swim start, etc.
I actually got to the race one FULL hour before it started! That never happens! I was able to put my running shoes on and do a quick 10 minute jog to get warmed up. Plenty of time to set up my T-area, too.
