Comments:

We really lucked out - there were no waves to speak of going out. On the way back in to the beach, they were definitely kicking up, but going in the right direction.

I made the HUGE mistake of following the male pack that started behind me when they came by. I think that they all tried to swim to Block Island. I couldn't see the buoys well at all - my goggles are orange, they were half filled with water, I am ridiculously nearsighted, and the buoys are really far apart. I think a purchase of non-orange goggles is in order.
What would you do differently?:

Pull myself together sooner - I think it was 2 or 3 minutes before I got down to a nice normal stroke, and by then the chance to find a swim buddy was gone.

Comments:

I felt really woozy (water in ear) so I was here forever. I changed, I ate a granola bar, I drank gatorade, people came and went.
What would you do differently?:

Um, nothing really. I felt bad.

Comments:

Going up King's Factory Road was hard - not at the halfway point yet, there were a few quadbusters, and I was jealous of the pack bombing down the hill. Going down was a highlight, though.

This was my first time using bike aid stations, and I stopped and chilled at each one. Took two gels at each, plus ~ 250 cals Gatorade.

The headwinds sucked - I didn't really notice them until the turnaround. I was feeling fine and thought I would just cruise back into town. Um, no.

The winds were so bad that I threw a hissy fit, seriously. I used the f word, I gave the wind the finger, I was pissed off. At this point, there were only a few people behind me, and no one came up. I wouldn't have minded a little action - it was pretty lonely.
What would you do differently?:

My biking was pretty weak this year. Garbage in, garbage out. I honestly feel like I'm close to a breakthrough, but it won't happen without work.

Comments:

So, I was in a horrible mood coming into T2. I thought, I hate this race, I hate this distance, so I'll do the run so I never have to do it again. Yes, I did the run. It was stupid. I walked huge chunks of it, and I felt fine. I passed a lot of people, but I'm not sure if all of them finished. The people at the aid statiosn were very nice - and I think that they were relieved to see a straggler who was not suffering.
What would you do differently?:

Not have a screwy knee.

Event comments:

I was really, really happy with the volunteer support. I did about the time I was anticipating, and I was fully prepared to find empty aid stations. But the support was awesome - I didn't see any stations that had been manned on my way out empty on the way back. With people finsihing from 4 to 9 hours, it must be a really long day. Special props go to the woman living at the mile 7 aid station who let me use her bathroom.

Note: I'm missing a T2 and run split. Assumed 2 minutes for T2, then back-calculated.

Nice job.

A half Ironman is very impressive!

I think I would have ran too...just my personality.

Way to go.

Congrats on finishing!!! YOu really stuck to it and got it done!

I agree on your outlook of the race. Those headwinds were tough, could have done without them !!!

Congrats on completing your first HIM!

I remember your Mooseman feelings so this was huge progress. Nice way to take your time and race your race....and finish strong not struggling.

Huge accomplishment on doing something very very hard that few can actually do. See me...I took the easy route and did a relay.

I suspect your race time will be corrected...they did updating periodically and the numbers would be correct..often it takes a day for the finishers at the end to be corrected .if not send them a quick email.

Congrats!

CONGRATS and well done for stickin' it out and doing the run course w/ the bad knee!

Hey, was that you who yelled "GO BT" on the bike course? Aaron and I were trying to figure out who we missed in the T-Area...

Congrats again!

Great job with a tough race! And nothing like a little run across the sand to finish off your day. Nice work.

Great job yesterday!  You toughed out some rough wind on the bike, that bumm knee on the run and nasty sand at the end to finish you HIM.  Fantastic accomplishment.

I had similar issues with my time...I have a final time but no "official" T2 time or run time...Great job on finishing...As I was starting the run, it took me a lot of self convincing to do it (then again it also took a lot for me not to cross the street when I saw all the peopel going the other way).

Once again, great job, I just hope I get to meet some of y'all in person. I scream "yeah BT" whenever I see someone on the course, but still need to find people face-to-face.

O.K. - I got my time. I wonder if the timing system had some sort of cutoff - 5 hours, perhaps? A little disappointed to see that the 2 people who were way behind me on the course (they were on mile 6 when I was at 11) didn't finish - they looked really bad, but you never know when someone can gut out a finish.

Thanks for the encouragement - I think that I will not be tackling this distance again until I am in better shape and can stay with the pack (BOP is fine). While the volunteers were awesome, it does get lonely.

Wow! That's amazing. Congratulations on your first HIM! Did you hear me yell "Go Elizabeth!" when you were climbing Kings Factory? I noticed you at the last second and didn't think you heard me.

Polly! I did hear you, but I had no clue who you were. You were moving too fast (I was jealous)! Thanks for the boost. Climbing that area was scary - the cars trying to get around the packs coming down barely saw us.

I've heard that they had issues with the timing computer system, which probably led to the slow posting of finish times and also the incomplete postings.

If your are not correct, email Wendy, especially if you have your splits.  She's fantastic about getting things right for you.

Congrats on you HIM finish!

Thanks! I checked and I am missing my last two splits, but I do have my total!

Also, the two people I passed at the mile 6 aid station (which was mile 11-ish going back) did in fact finish, one in almost 10 hours. That is impressive - they were both suffering, and to gut out 7 more miles is amazing.
