What's coming up for this quiet NC group?

I'm looking at racing White Lake Int'l this spring. Anyone else planning to be there?

Raleigh 70.3 is the big focus, but I am going to do Belews Intl as a check-in/tune-up, too.

I've got Raleigh 70.3 as my primary as well but also signed up for White Lake Int'l as a warm-up. See you there!

Hi Matt,

I did Raleigh last year - it was my first half as well. This year's will be my second half. On the whole, it's a great course. The only thing was the run was extremely hot last year. It's very well supported though with ice, cold sponges, and tons of volunteers. It was only about 1-1.5 miles between aid stations. If you have a good plan in place, you will be fine!

I've heard good things about Raleigh. I haven't raced there, and hoped to this year, but not going to happen.

I may race Pinehurst Int'l and a few other local races, then going to Chattanooga 70.3 in September and IMMD in October. Good times.

I was planning to race White Lake Intl until dOOd said he was going to show up and crush it. Now I might just pack my bags and go elsewhere

I haven't signed up for anything yet but planning in the near term:
Azalea
Tobacco Road Marathon (actually I am signed up for this one)
White Lake Intl/Sprint double OR Kerr Intl

I'm considering Raleigh 70.3, and still need to find a late season 70.3 (not doing B2B again this year).

White Lake crushed me the last few times I raced there, man! A buddy of mine racing there will crush it, though. He's in the 45-49 AG.

Tobacco Road is a good marathon. The surface is mostly easy on the body and, minus the first and last few miles, flat flat flat. Good luck! Race well!

What's your friends name? I'm starting to recognize the fast guys around NC. I'm racing Azalea this weekend and some guys came out of the woodwork for that race last year!! And congrats on your WC slot. The wife and I hung around at roll down but she just missed her slot.

Tobacco Road is going to be iffy. Running with the wife for her BQ but she's having knee surgery right after the race. So just hoping it holds out to get through it.

Setting my sights on competing in the Beaverdam Sprint Triathlon on 05/13/17:
https://fsseries.com/ra/r/beaverdam-olympic-and-sprint-triathlon/

This will be my first tri. Spent some time today cobbling together the start of my training plan. It's a bit odd because I have 9.5 weeks until the race, and I just finished training for and competing in the Florence Fourth 10k running race in Durham, NC. Other oddities: no power meter on my bike, but I do have a Stryd footpod on a shoe. So I'm borrowing bits of a 5K power-running plan from Jim Vance's Run with Power book, and combining it with the skeleton of this plan: http://www.triathlete.com/2017/02/training/8-week-sprint-triathlon-...

Not an uncomplicated endeavor!

I've wanted to try Beaverdam! And it's like 10 minutes from my house so I have no excuse. Congrats on committing to your first tri! Not sure of your background, but let us know if you need any help with that training plan.

Not to derail the thread, but how was the 10k? My wife was working the first water station. She said it was freezing out there!

Art Miller...He's always Beast Mode ON
Thanks! I raced 4x HIM (2x WTC) in 2016 and barely got in at IMNC. It was a tough race, but nothing like Worlds will be this year!

Well, if there's a marathon that's easiest on the body, I think TR is it...the trail is packed dirt/sand...mostly. I hope she gets her BQ as that is the best race ever!

I haven't raced Azalea, but I've heard good things about it! Good luck!

Beaverdam is a fun race! Low key, good course, and good support. Good luck! Race hard! Have fun!

The 10k was cold! It was 28 degrees F when I woke up that morning. My goal for the race was to beat three of my neighbors who were also running. One of them was ahead of me the entire time, and the other two passed me on the last mile. All in good fun, though. My time was 57 minutes. I'm not a speed demon, but hope to improve this year.

Your wife may know my friend Ellen from Bull City Running, who was also working the first water station. I grabbed a gatorade from Ellen just to say hi, but it was so cold that I could only bare to take one tiny slurp.

I'm really glad I ran the Florence Fourth. It's for a great cause, and the vibe of the race was excellent.

Nice job on the race, it was absolutely freezing!

Just signed up for my first. White Lake Half. I'm thankful d00d isn't going to be in it to ruin my chances in my age group

I'm thinking about Raleigh 70.3. It was brutal for me last year. My slowest half and the worst heat/dehydration I've ever felt.

I'm just cruising this year. Not doing a lot of races or worrying about my performance. Just need some rest. IM Louisville is my focus.

It sure is! Last time I remember looking at my calendar I was saying I still have 8 weeks to get in decent swim shape. Now I'm screwed :D. GL out there, and hopefully the weather will be nice.

Glad I'm doing the international distance :D. Hopefully I'll be done before it gets too bad out there. I'm just glad its not 28 burr! Hopefully the weather holds up for everyone doing the HIM. It would be great if it just stayed cloudy to keep it cool.

nothing cool about this day! it was HOT!
White Bake lives again!
Congrats to all of you that tacked the Half and International.
Also, I hope we get an update on the person that had heat exhaustion/stroke at the end of their race. I hope they're ok!

Last minute sign up for Beaverdam. Just got back in the pool after a month of not swimming. Not a great idea. Should be an interesting race! Haha

Looks like White Lake was tough for you guys this year? Fresh pavement though?

There were a few areas of fresh pavement, but many others where the pavement was rough. Some parts of the road were rippled, if that makes sense. Made for a rough ride over those sections. Not an overall bad ride, but not great.

The run is where dreams went to die...it was warm.

Whatever. Your run didn't do no dying. It looked pretty solid to me.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.
