Fall Frenzy Triathlon
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 10s
Overall Rank = 99/215
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 21/45
Pre-race routine:

PB sandwich and some oatmeal. Read the funnies and off to the race.
Event warmup:

Got setup in the transition area. Did some jumping jacks and swam a bit in the shallow pool.
Swim
  • 07m 35s
  • 457 meters
  • 01m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started in the fast lane, only 3 swimmers in our heat. The first guy swam really fast. All I thought about was keeping up with him and I had a great swim.
What would you do differently?:

From the swim area to the transition area was across two parking lots. I used slippers...bad idea, could not really run in those. Next time I will keep my running shoes right there at the pool exit (I use those to bike as well).
Transition 1
  • 04m 56s
Comments:

1:55 from pool to T1, 3:01 in T1. SLOW!!! This was my first time and my T1 needs a lot of improvement. 38th of 45 in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

No drinking in T1, do it on the bike. I just took it a bit too easy as well. Maybe ditch the bike gloves as well, or put them on on the bike. I need the longsleeved shirt for sun protection but got to get it on fast!!
Bike
  • 42m 50s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.21 mile/hr
Comments:

The hills were pretty hard, but overall a good ride. Bit faster than I had expected.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Pretty good transition, a bit slow racking the bike.
Run
  • 28m 19s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

GOOD RUN for me. I expected a 10 min/mile pace. Going out hurt but coming back felt much better.
Post race
Warm down:

Hug, grimace and smile....walked around a bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still lacking basic endurance after only 1.5 months of training, no surprise there. T1 was too slow.

Event comments:

It was a first great Tri for me. The organization was great which made it so easy for me.

Nice race Bert. Next race we should meet. We had about 8 other Denver BTers hanging out together.

Thanks Josh, it was my very first Tri and it was a great experience.
I was very tired Monday but not that sore fortunately. I'd like to hook up with you guys.
I need all the advice I can get. For example where do you train your open water swim??
I live in the Lowry area and work in the Tech center.

Saw your race log, good race! Congrats.

Chatfield is the place for OWS.  It closes in a couple of weeks.  Most people have hung up the wetsuit for this year, but you'll see us start posting group swims when things open up again in the spring.  Also some people go to Aurora res.   I hear its nice, but haven't swam there other than at the Rattlesnake tri.

Congrats on the race.   Keep it up.
