Elton I can't imagine doing those Krispy Kreme challenges--just the thought makes my stomach turn! Your friend must have a stomach of steel! Have a great training day today! I'll update you on race #1 and #2 tomorrow morning--#2 is at 7am so it'll be a two race report! Happy Friday! |

It was very humid (liquid air) this morning, and warmer than it has been, so my HR stayed pretty high today (160+) for most of the run. lots of Z3 / Z4 work! |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon Bronze member | Subject: RE: 7.7.17 Fabulous Friday! Ha ha I have done that (run really early when half-asleep and then forgotten I did it till I see the dirty clothes!). Maybe it's a good idea to get it in before you're really awake--if you don't remember it, you'll recover faster?? Kim, good luck with the race and stay safe with that heat. Don't think I will be signing up for that event. I'm appalled enough at the triple-digit temps I've seen for Boise all week. Saigon is hot but I rarely am out in heat of the day--most of my runs are over in the first hour after sunrise, I swim mostly indoors, and 95% of my biking is on the trainer in my apartment. This Oregonian just isn't used to burning sunlight! 9 AM: One hour run on Pre's Trail with some fartlek pickups. 11:30 AM 3200m of swimming. The sun had just started to come out by then. Not sure if anyone else is from the Northwest, but we have a phenomenon called the "marine layer"--a cool layer of clouds from the coast that comes in overnight and lingers...anywhere from an hour or so after sunrise to pretty much all day. How hot it gets depends mainly on if/when the marine layer clears. (90% of the time in the winter, it never clears! 90% of the time in summer, it does.) This allows lazy runners to start workouts pretty much any time before noon or 1 PM on a typical summer day and stay pleasantly cool. When I have my druthers, I time workouts to start just as things start to clear, so I can have sunlight and pleasant cool temps. Boise.....no marine, so no marine layer. Sob.
