Subject: Bathroom while biking???
So what do you do if you need to use the bathroom while you are biking during a triathlon? I never did more than 3 hours triathlon so I was able to wait and go only once during the run but I'm sure I will need to go after 2 hours on my bike (plus 40 minutes of swim and extra hydratation)!!! I can't wait to the run. Do people stop to go or they just do it on their bike or they retain it??? I know I need to evacuate if I drink a lot but I won't do it on my bike - it's too gross!

If you can't do it on the bike, find a tree, bush, or Micky D's to pee at. But many just let it fly on the fly.

Agreed.  FWIW, I used the bushes in my Half-Iron.  Sucked farting around and watching everyone I'd passed pass me right back.

See I'm a woman and I can't just let it go because I might do an infection that way! I will ask the race people on site if there is any facilities for us. Crap it really sucks!!!

Pull over and go. If you're peeing on the bike, you better be contending for a podium spot. It's ridiculous for anyone else to even consider

Not a doctor, but I don't think peeing on the bike heightens your risk of infection. If so, there are plenty of women out there taking that chance.

I know that wearing a wet swimsuit is! I imagine wearing a trisuit pee soaked can lead to infection? Not a doctor either but I don't think I want to take the chance - I'll loose 2 minutes and pull over that's it.

Ewwwwwww...

My friends always joked that we needed to invent the "Bar Buddy" so you didn't have to run to the bathroom at crowded bars and keep your spot for more beer.  I suppose a similar adaptation could be made for the bikes... a "reverse camel back" like I mentioned on another post.

Isn't your tri suit soaked in sweat/water and possibly energy drink anyway? Its not any different.

Ask if your HIM has port a potties somewhere on the bike course. Mine didn't...saw a guy stop and go on the side of the road. It is harder as a women to find a spot to go off on the side of the road to be quick and not let the world see your bum. Ask my friends, when I predrive or ride any Oly or longer bike course, I am always looking for places I could stop and pee if need be.

For me, I've peed on my bike when it was raining. Not sure I could do it without the motivation from the rain.

I pee in my wetsuit in my tri shorts at every race, never had a problem with infection.  Seriously I think holding is it really worse for you then peeing on your bike or in the bushes.

I carried a special 1/2 full water bottle on my HIM bike in case I peed on my bike so I could give myself a little squirt if need be...didn't need to go though.

I would venture that the water you're swimming in for your HIM presents a far greater threat of infection than would a little urine. Sounds like you're very selective in your squeamishness.

How on EARTH could any BTer POSSIBLY go to the bathroom on the bike during a race?!?! You're unable to post a poll in CoJ to ask if it's okay at that very moment, therefore, you have to hold it to wait so you can finish, post your RR, and then ask if it's okay to go to the bathroom.

So I made a fool of myself today by asking this stupid question I guess... However I would like to say that I will probably not be able to pee on my bike - not only for infection reason (although I really think it is bad to spend long hours in a suit impregnate with urine) but as I can see it looks like that's what people do! Good to know that!

Though this intuitively just sounds nasty, there's no more risk of you getting an infection from having urine on you than from having Gatorade.

Isn's ones own urine sterile to ones self? I though I heard that before. So as long as you dont go on other competitors it should be OK?

URINE IS STERILE.

You may find it gross but it will not hurt you. If you don't want to go on the bike, don't, but swimming in the OW is more dangerous than tinkling on yourself.

Common uses of pee.
