Has anyone had any experience with Carbon wheels from no-name brands? It is no secret that mainstream companies are charging more for 1- name brand, 2- R&D But with the advancement of Carbon and testing, is it really worth it to pay double, sometimes triple the price for name brand? I am looking at wheels onine right now that have 1,348 comments and reviews with only 3% negative reviews. The wheel set is less than one flo wheel...

I wouldn't buy No-Name carbon wheels at any cost. I had a friend who had a nasty crash and two years of rehabilitation. He can't talk about it though as there was a lawsuit.

Personally, I wouldn't even get carbon, why not just get aluminum. The HED JET 6+ starting at $999 can't be beat. I wrote up the reasoning here:

Appreciate the response. Enjoyed reading your review and had me sold...UNTIL I went to buy them...Unfortunately, I'm a Clydesdale and HED has a 190lbs max on that wheel (Low limit for carbon wheels)

I would not buy knock off carbon wheels.

First quality and safety -- is an unknown- yes I've seen them come apart-

second your buying it for speed- just because it is carbon fiber does not mean it's faster, the knock off wheels for the most part have never gone through the testing and some that have were tested slower than basic alloy wheels. Someone on this site actually did some of this several years ago thinking he had a good deal on wheels and found them to be slower.

Third- ethics- it's stolen technology from US and European companies

I'm not totally sure what OP means by "knock offs" here. I have a set of SuperTeam carbon fiber wheels. Of course they are not Zipps or Reynolds, etc. They are about a quarter of the cost. But I have had really good experience with them, and I don't think they claim to be a knock off or anything like that. I'm only posting this as I was looking for something that would improve performance, but didn't want to spend $2k or more. These wheels have been really good so far.

You should look at FLO Cycling Al/Carbon wheels.  The standard build weight limit is 198 lbs, clydes 242lbs.  You can find the gen 1 (2012-2016) used on eBay just every month for ~$500-600, or buy the new redesigned model.  I just sold my standard build gen1 60/90 set for $625 shipped.

I never said "knock offs" Just re-read my post- I said "no-name" and referred to non main stream but never knock offs. The wheels you mentioned were a set I was actually looking at.

Thank you all for the comments- I decided to go to LBS and talk to them about pros and cons. After discussing for awhile, I decided to hold off another month and will be getting a wheel set through them. Will be AL/Carbon and a higher spoke count for my weight.

Again- thanks for the comments. appreciate the insight and suggestions.
