1 week out. Anyone else doing it? I know my distance is there easily. I'm just trying to figure out how hard I can push and be competitive (and beat my friends). My run is definitely my weakness. I want to swim hard, hammer my bike, and cruise my run. I know where I need to keep run pace to improve over the 10K and it's a pretty flat lake side run. I'm just looking for some advice on bike course. It should be pretty flat with a few ramps up and down to switch roads. Has anyone done the new bike course? Any transition advice. This is going to be a different monster than my 400 participant local Sprint. Luckily I am doing the charity wave and I should get a very early start, maybe the 3rd wave.
Nerves and and excitement are starting to set in. I can't wait.

I raced the Oly last year and am racing again this year. The bike course is congested, and there are a couple of areas where you have to ride single file. There really is no opportunity to pass in those areas. My advice would be to hammer the first 1/4 of the bike leg to get in front of the pack. You are still going to run in to congested areas, but hopefully in the faster pack and not stuck in the middle or worse yet, the back.

As Jeff also commented.....crush the first half of the bike (lake shore drive). Plenty of room to do whatever you need out there, second half is more congested...I had to hold back and wait to pass a few times on the second half which is frustrating.

Cant wait for this weekend.....good luck to you. Its a great race.

I don't feel like you have to blitz the swim. If the harbor gets choppy you can burn a lot of matches fighting the swells. Flat and open bike, feel free to hammer away. Depending on how late your wave is, that run can get stupid hot so kinda keep that in mind.

I'll be starting early since I'm in the charity wave and hope I can get out in front of most them. I'm looking forward to the race and can't wait for Sunday. It's taken a lot of self control to not train more this week just to get my nervous energy out. I don't like rest days!

Water temperature is 71 this morning been hovering around there last few days. You don't NEED one, but I think it will be nicer to have one. Plus it is so much faster. I did two sprint triathlons one was wetsuit legal, one wasn't both the exact same course. 500 meter swim. with=7:05 without=8:10 and my sighting was better on the second swim. So, that's at least a 3 min advantage over the distance of an olympic swim and my legs felt super fresh coming out of the water with a wetsuit.

I've never had one and I was fine but... I love colder waters, and hate warm water...
