Hey BT!  Still on the road here....uuugh!  Made it to Cheyenne around 2am and not a single hotel room to be had--all the eclipsers!  We ended up sleeping in the truck for a few hours and got back on the road! I *might* get a run in later this afternoon once I get home, the dog squad will be wanting to get moving!

Yesterday I forgot to add my respect to those of you who train in the humidity--my Sunday 5K was in about 75-80% humidity and I HATED it!!!  If felt like I was  running wearing a fur coat!   Give me my 115 degree dry heat any day over that humidity. Karen, I know you train in insane percentages--how do you do that!?

Have a great day and I can't tell you how excited I am to do a regular super early am Kim post tomorrow morning! Lol!

Hey there! Yeah, we like our humidity here in Missouri. ??

No training for me today as I've pretty much been living in the bathroom since 4:30 this morning. I'm surprised my body is still finding stuff to expel. ??

Off day for me since I had to get to Charlotte super early this morning.

Hope you get better Robert.

Kim: The humidity in SC is rough this time of the year. I still prefer it over cold weather. I lived in Georgia and SC all my life so I adapted some to the humidity but some days it makes training rough.

Have a great day BT!

Ya...humidity is brutal.  When I was in college at the University of Wyoming in Laramie at 7,200 feet (and the really run trails between Cheyenne and Laramie were 8,200') I found that being at home in humidity was much harder to run in that 8,200 feet with dry air.  I like to train in the heat and humidity though.  After training in the heat and humidity you can race like a Kenyan.

I guess one just gets used to heat/humidity There isn't any other weather available, and I hate treadmills, so it's that or not train outside at all. No secrets--you just get used to never really feeling 100%. Plus a whole lotta hydration--it's insane how many fluids I take in on long runs and bricks. Nuun (electrolyte tabs) is a food group. Sometimes I need up to 36 oz an hour of fluids. I always try to make runs as early in the morning as possible. Bricks are hardest as by definition, by the time you finish biking 3-4 hours, it's not early morning anymore. (No, I don't start them at 2 AM!)

That being said, I've been doing most of my runs in the water lately, so maybe not qualified to comment anymore! Not sure if I am getting better or not--we have ruled out most stuff--not Morton's neuroma, not a stress fracture, not arthritis, and, thank goodness, not anything (like some component of a jellyfish?) stuck in my foot. It seems to be some sort of joint/ligament inflammation under one toe. Sounds trivial unless you happen NOT to be a heel striker and run on the balls of your feet, and until you try to pick up the pace and push harder off your toes. I have been doing all manner of treatment but haven't noticed a lot of consistent improvement that I can't attribute to just not running much. Something they did Monday left me quite excruciatingly sore and was worried they'd done more damage than the original injury (probably from ill-fitting bike shoes) but now am thinking they may have just broken up some scar tissue and the resulting yuck needed a few days to calm down. Maybe all in my head--it was acupuncture, I looked down at one point, and thought, "OMG, those are REALLY BIG NEEDLES." I could swear I looked during previous treatments and they weren't that big!

Hoping against hope this gets a little better--70.3 Worlds are in 2 1/2 weeks! It can't possibly be as painful as having REALLY BIG NEEDLES shot into the sore part of one's foot....can it??

Oh yes, training. Very waterlogged day Tuesday. 40 minutes of pool running AM and 3300m of swim stuff PM. The lifeguard situation has been rectified (finally), so PM faculty swim is back--should be no more regular need for 6 AM swims. I won't miss them. Don't mind early morning runs or trainer rides but for some reason swimming and I don't get along well early AM--my back always feels tight and nothing I eat beforehand seems to sit well then.
