Subject: Microshift vs Ultegra
I've decided to make the leap from converted road bike to triathlon specific bike. The shop that did my fitting has a P2 on clearance, but it also seems that Cervelo starts at a higher price point for a 105 bike than other makers. One component difference that jumps out is the Ultegra shifters vs the Microshift that I see on many of the other entry level bikes. Has anyone noticed a practical difference in the performance of bar end shifters?

It sounds like your new to this rodeo. Please don't worry about such small attributes as the shifting on a bike. In 10 years you won't even remember your finish times.

Ride the bike for fun, enjoy some prosperous finishes...but for god sakes remember that a cold beer trumps all of this nano-second bull .

I would be very surprised if you could even find a Cervelo with Microshift. There is a substantial and very meaningful difference between Ultegra and Microshift. Between 105 and Ultegra, much less.

I assume you're talking about Microshift bar end shifters vs the Dura Ace bar end shifters? Because Shimano doesn't make an Ultegra (or 105) level bar end shifter. If so, yes, there's a small, but noticeable, difference in the crispness shifting. That said, which shifters a bike had would be so far down on my list of priorities that it would likely have no bearing on which bike I would choose. In other words, I wouldn't pass on a bike I otherwise liked because it had Microshift shifters. I'd buy the bike and ride it as equipped. If I just couldn't stand the Microshift shifters, the Dura Ace shifters are only a $100 or so.

I crashed about 3 days before leaving for lake placid 4 years ago and broke one of my microshift shifters. Until then I was happy with them, they seemed to shift crisply. The bike shop only had Dura Ace to replace them with and there was no problem. The Dura Ace feel a little smoother and index just as well. In either case they function exactly the same,

Trivial difference, they all work well and cost about the same. Dura-ace isn't much more (as compared to the road bike shifters where they are $$$$)

I've had a Felt B14 for nearly three years now and it has MicroShift TT shifters. I ran into the same thing when I was looking, all the other brands (Cervelo in particular) wanted $400-500 more for their bikes with 105 components when the B14 came standard with Ultegra front and rear derailers.
