I'm glad he is on MFP! Please let me know if either of you hear from him! I know he had a lot going on with the new job and such.

+1 on DQ being active - was also getting worried.  Nudge him over here, please.

75 minutes on the trainer today, 3 x 12' over/unders (or technically, they were under/ramps, but whatever, they still hurt).  Raised my FTP on TrainerRoad 5 watts so I felt it pretty good.   Also got in 1400 in the pool last evening plus some strength and core work.  Back was a little sore but that's expected for another week or so.  Trying my first run tomorrow.

First run attempt post-ablation - ouch.  Well, a little anyway...also did a bunch of core and posterior chain strength training.  I will likely be pretty sore muscle-wise tomorrow.  Back felt great post-bike yesterday, then I decided to run.  LOL

Hey Everyone!

It has been FOREVER since I last posted here. I scrolled through some of the 2018 posts and super cool to see lots of familiar faces still active (and also some new ones!).

I dont know if you all remember me, but I joined the group back in 2013 when I started training for my first IM at Tremblant (2014). David Qua and I were both at that one (I think it was his first as well?). Anyway. After that awesome experience I transitioned back into bike racing and spent a couple years racing at the pointy end of Cat1/2. I won't get into reasons but I made a jump back into triathlon and have been going hard with it for awhile again.

Anyway. I wanted to come back here, since this basically where my Triathlon journey started, to let you all know that at the ripe old age of 32, 2018 will be my first season racing ironman as a professional triathlete. First pro race is Chattanooga 70.3.

I dont drink much beer anymore but when I do get a rest day, I've been in love with an IPA called Aromatherapy from a local brewery here in Ottawa: Beyond the Pale. Not too bitter but the hop Aroma is otherworldly.

I'll be racing IM Chattanooga70.3, IM Eagleman70.3, IM Steelhead70.3, Rev3 Barrelman70.3, and IM Arizona140.6. If anyone is going to be racing those, let me know! I'd love to grab a recovery beer.

Cheers everyone!

DQ Update.

I'll leave it to DQ to let you know what he's been up too. But he replied to my MFP message, and said he's hoping to get a workout in today, and log in to BT. So hopefully we'll be hearing from him soon

Welcome back, Alan! Exciting to hear we have a Pro in our midst again and that beer you described sounds excellent.

Welcome back, Alan.  Cool to hear from you - I've been following your blog (which has some really good articles, if the rest of you are interested) and on Strava.  Would be interested to hear your experience as a pro from time to time.

Feeble attempt at a Trainer Road workout this morning, 90 minutes doing Billats or HIIT or whatever they call that hell.  That's the first time I've attempted that type of workout so I'm hoping the next time will go easier.  I got in a little over an hour, so at least I did something.

Short 3 mile run yesterday morning and 1300m in the pool this morning. Was planning on 1400m but I got there late and was already in the water a few minutes past closing time.

This weekend will consist of drinking some stout and hopefully clear enough weather for a bike ride and trail run.

Alan!! Great to hear from you and congrats on going pro! Holy smokes!! I’ve seen you ramping up on Strava!

Back is on the mend here and I got in a nice, easy 3 mile run in the treadmill here in DC along with some lifting and core work.
I’m toying with doing 80 Day Obsession... I know it’s a bit of a no-no and that I should be focusing on s/b/r but with traveling so much I’m having a really hard time getting biking in and often swimming too so I thought maybe I’d keep up strength with this. I do best when I’m on some kind of plan - I’m usually anal about sticking to one. Still on the fence..

Alan, welcome back! So excited to hear about more adventures!

I signed up for an Oly near me called Diamond in the Rough. Have my sprint in late September and hope to do at least one or 2 more races this summer.

Just got back from PR, where I had the best laid plans to run a bunch, but we all know how those go...
I went on a run my first morning but about 5 minutes in I saw a couple stray dogs. I actually have a mild fear of dogs not on leashes (was chased by my aunt's Rottweiler when I was 6), so I turned around and headed back, knowing I would have anxiety the whole time that one would chase me. Another morning a friend was going to run with me, but she was too hungover so we nixed it. We did go on a killer hike though! It was about 3 miles total, but was basically great training for a spartan race. Lots of fallen trees that we had to climb over and under. Wasn't really prepared for that, was in a sarong haha, so that was interesting to say the least.

Came back to a few inches of snow, so got a day off to recover from the trip. Drank a lot of Medalla (basically the bud light of PR, lol). I know you all won't approve.

I got in. Few short runs and a few days of lifting this past week. Today I finally got back on the bike for an hour in zone 2, then to the gym to play hoops with the boys, then we hopped in the pool. I managed to get 500 yards in while swimming with the boys.

Alan, welcome back! Someday you could tell us what moved you from semi-pro cyclist to pro-triatthlete, sure it´s a good story!
Not very active lately both here, and trying to go keep moving - I want to do a marathon in a month, but really missing my bike. I would say that this year I am putting more miles into running but in much worse shape than when I was doing the 3 of them. So ready to get done with the marathon and go back to HIM training and hopefully 1-2 grand fondos near the summer.

Hope you all have a great Easter break!

Have a few days off so trying to take advantage of them. Spun for an hour yesterday and went to the gym with hubby and boys- played basketball for over an hour then we all went swimming - I managed 500 yards in between swimming with them.
Today I played basketball with one of them for an hour and a half then went swimming again and managed to get 800 yds in.
I head back out Wednesday, so looking forward to a trainer ride tomorrow, maybe a run then Tuesday I agreed to a spin class with a friend and probably swim after.

keep it up and stick with it! I used C2k5 when I first started running about 5-6 years ago and never thought I could run more than a mile.

Well, I found it.  From 2015 (!).  Unfortunately there's nothing in the storefront...  Mark, you don't remember who it was that set everything up with jakroo do you?  I know at one point like the next season there were more people that wanted to order, and that person had to contact jakroo to get them to re-open the order or some other business.

Howdy y'all!  I'm back on the wagon.  Finally - after 5-6 months of house and moving related business, I'm settled.  The house is officially sold, we're moved into an apartment until August when we make the 1300 mile trek south to our new home.

Just got caught up on the whole thread.  Good to hear from everyone, though terrible with the pileup of injuries, surgeries, and illnesses.  Get well soon everyone!I promise to be better at keeping up.

ALAN!  GREAT to hear from you!  And congrats on making the move to Pro Triathlon!  You and Andrew Talansky, this year.

It's been a strange time for me, packing away or donating so much of my stuff to downsize for apartment living.  There's a nice 24 hour gym here in the complex so I've been back on the spin bike and the treadmill so far.  Nothing crazy, but also starting from zero as I've been completely inactive since my HM in October.  DYING to trade the spin bike for my real bike but it could be another month at least, we still not only have snow on the sides of the roads but we're still getting snow...  Then I have to wait for the street sweepers to clear the beach of sand off the shoulder.  I've had a tear in my eye every time I've seen my bike in the garage for the last 6 months....  There's no indoor pool here (the horror) but we have an outdoor one waiting for...well by the time that warms up I'll probably be moving.  It'll be a while before I get back to swimming.

Only one race planned for 2018 so far, the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon, in early November.  Since I'll be a Florida resident then and I have friends coming down from MA to do the race, I needed to as well.  I have enough gear with me to be able to do a sprint if I'm up to it, but it's going to be tough without being able to train in the pool...potentially going to try and convince my wife the swimmer that she can swim sprint distance with zero training, and I can relay the other two legs

I'm going to reach out to DQ again.  I had right around New Year's but he got busy with a new job and I was busy with the house and...you know how it goes.

I'm looking forward to putting many miles on this beauty:

Mark's new ride

So jealous!  Love the Madone 9.  Nice bike!

I think it was Dave O who did the order. Haven't seen him on here in awhile (possibly since 2015!). Not sure how that works if we want to get it reopen, but I'd be interested!

Coming back from vacation is tough. I was super behind in work and school, and working out. Went to masters practice Saturday morning. Left a half hour early (still managed to get in 2500 yards...) b/c we had a long free set coming up and I was dead. Studied the rest of the day to try to catch up on school (Ochem, bleh).

Had a football game yesterday and almost hurt my knee again, no bueno. Volleyball tonight, plan to do a spin class tomorrow and boot camp Wednesday. Need the weather to warm up so I can run outside without hating life! Also should probably get that trainer I bought out of the trunk of my car so I can learn how to use it, just in time for spring! haha

Nicole I forgot to mention this earlier-  Organic Chemistry is just the fricking worst.  I got along ok with the nomenclature (memorization) and reactions and such but when came down to the structural part (you know, the important part) - I crumbled.

^^^^. I’m with John. Organic chemistry is what made me decide to do other things than originally planned. Hahaha

Spin yesterday.
Swam 500 yds this morning - wanted to do more but had planned to meet a friend for spin class. I haven’t done a spin class in 3 years - since I torqued my knee from wearing sneakers. Well I was talked into getting spin shoes (my road bike shoes don’t work in their clips) and gave it another shot.. totally kicked my butt. Hahahaa. It was a good kicking and I enjoyed it. I won’t do the “jumping” stuff, fortunately this guy didn’t do that (he’s an actual avid road cyclist) so we did stuff more akin to actual cycling - but a lot out of the saddle today so I will be sore tomorrow. Haha.
Tomorrow’s my last day home for the week so I’m trying to get in all the cycling and swimming I can. I think I found a gym with a pool near my crashpad in DC so I’m going to give them a call and see if they’ll do punch cards, maybe they have spin bikes too I can use. That would be so helpful..just more things to pack in my one carryon I get for 6 days. I think spring is around the corner! - I still have almost 2 feet of snow in my yard but I can tell there’s a slow melt going on and it’s good.

Yes, that is what I've heard with organic chemistry from many people. I'm more than halfway through! Keeping my eye on the prize lol.

Went to HIIT spin class this morning. I'm ravenous today. Doing a sugar detox and that combined with working out has me extremely hungry. Hopefully my dinner of chicken and roasted veggies will tide me over.

Just back from south west UK looking for universities for my daughter (Bath, Exeter, Warwick...). Nice 12km easy run this morning -already Easter break- in the park. When I look at my times, I used to be much better when doing s/b/r, so I am going back to it instead of just running as a plan for my marathon. And agree with Jenn, I am much much better if I have a plan, otherwise I am rather lost.....

Did boot camp yesterday, today is my day off. I was considering running to go buy a new phone but have decided to take the day off since I did a lot this week so far. Going to try to go to Masters practice tomorrow, then heading to PA for Easter so will try to run Saturday and Sunday. That first run is always the hardest but I need to get it done.
