Okay--I promised to start the thread....I did mention that I don't get going early on winter workouts stateside, didn't I? Started my long ride (on the trainer, of course--we got about four inches of snow overnight!) at about 2 PM!

2:45 of riding through virtual "France" (Bike the World Youtube channel) in the COLD garage. Mostly Z2 and Z3 with some short Z1 recoveries.

Tomorrow is my day off from training--I get one a week until after Wanaka in February, I think. Maybe someone else can start the thread!

For anyone who missed a post and wondered about the snowfall, I'm not in Saigon right now! My parents moved this past fall to Eagle, a small town just northwest of Boise, Idaho. Most elderly people move somewhere warmer, not somewhere that requires extensive snow shoveling. Devoted considerable time to pondering their sanity this morning while dutifully shoveling the white stuff. One of our neighbors has a big riding plow; guess they can engage his services when I'm not around.

BTW: Can I log shoveling as Strength? About 30-40 minutes of that. Not only did my parents move to a cold, snowy place, they bought a house on a corner lot--double the sidewalk to shovel. Awesome.

I spent most of my life shoveling lake effect snow in upstate ny, so I give you permission to log it as strength training. Biking doesn’t seem to aggravate my ribs so I snuck away from the family festivities for 30 minutes on the stationary bike. I should check out those YouTube videos, I just enjoyed the view of mount washer and lake dryer. Happy festivus!

Mount Washer and Mount Air-Con would be my normal view in Saigon, if I didn't have the video going. No drier--it's called tropical heat and clotheslines! In Boise, in addition to the video, I have the garbage and recycle cans for company and a view of the street outside through the little garage window. Dad was nice enough to come back from errands and bring me a grande Starbucks hot coffee with about an hour to go!

Yes, shoveling snow definitely counts as strength training. We had lots of it a couple of weeks ago, it’s all gone now. I love snow. Unfortunately did not get a chance to enjoy it as I have been sick the whole time. The flu. Still have a mild fever. Haven’t ran, biked, swam for almost two weeks and I am not even getting restless....

Oh yuck! I had a nasty case in February and didn't have any enthusiasm for anything involving spending extra energy for nearly six weeks. Hope you feel better soon.

I doubt it. It was just really bad timing. I got sick right before a couple of trips on subsequent weekends--returning from a training camp, a race I'd already paid and booked non-refundable tickets and hotel for the following weekend, and a couple days the week after that on a school field trip. Basically I never was able to get much rest, or take off work long enough to really get better, and ended up getting a sinus infection and bronchitis on top of the initial virus. I also have asthma, so that tends to prolong and complicate things when I get anything respiratory. Got the shot this year--supposedly it's not that effective against this year's virus, but anything that reduces my chance of feeling that sick anytime soon, I'm going for it!
