Subject: 2.28.18 Buh Bye February!

Good morning BT!

4:45am:  :30 minute easy run followed by lower body strength + stretch + core

Regarding the early morning workouts...same thing here with the kids.  When hubby and I started a family 18 years ago I vowed not to let my training interfere with mom duties/time with my babies so I started getting up early to train while they slept.  18 years later it has just become my routine and I love it.  I am definitely a morning person plus I am blessed (sometimes cursed) with narcolepsy so when my head hits the pillow at night I am out so I always get solid sleep.

Get to work all day with admin and a few select teachers today to build our schedule for next school year.  I have a feeling I'm going to be picking up some 10th grade English classes along with my little freshies.

Steve...so cool!  I'd love to get all that data just to see where I'm at.  How do you have access to that?

Good morning! I'm pretty close to TCU, and the Kinesiology department there is running some sort of study on the effect of a high carbohydrate mouth rinse on cycling performance. I fit the subject profile, so am able to participate. They let me hook up my own power meter to the bike, so I'm able to track my power and heart rate. Interesting stuff.

6:10 - 30km time trial for the study. About a minute slower than last week's. I'm at the beginning of a cold, and had to do a high carb diet (75%!!!) yesterday. I suspect both had an impact.

I'm supposed to do a strength workout at lunch. Should be fun.

I did a bit of Z2 / Z3 work on the treadmill today.  5K run in 26:32.  An 7:50 pace until my HR starting to go a bit into Z3, then 9:20 to 10 until my HR slowed down back into Z2.

12 miles on the trainer followed by some calf strengthening and stretches.

I’m reading Endure by Alex Hutchinson right now. He talks about a study in the book where simply swishing a carbohydrate drink in the mouth and spitting it out improved performance. More so than actually directly pumping the drink into the stomach via NG tube. This led the researchers to believe that there may be receptors in the mouth or on the tongue that signal that energy is on the way. I’ll see if I can find the source if you’re interested. Sounds similar to what you are doing.
