Subject: RE: 3.16.18 Happy Friday! Hello. Today was the last day, and my last time trial, of the study. Kim, the study protocol called for rides on two consecutive days for four weeks. The first ride was a depletion ride to clear out glycogen. I then had to follow a high carb or low carb diet until the second ride. My first two weeks were high carb, the last two, low carb. During each time trial, my VO2 was measured every 6km, starting at 3k. I took a 10" mouth rinse (but no swallow) every 6km, starting at 6k. One week, the rinse was glycogen rich, the other was a placebo. I didn't know which I got each week. There was a noticeable difference in my times (about a minute) when I took the carb rinse versus the placebo. Interestingly, my times for the placebo were almost identical, regardless of whether I was high carb or low carb the day prior. Same for the carb rinse. Whew. 6:30 - 30km TT. Later, strength work. Tomorrow, I'm doing a 5k; coach wants me to treat it as a tempo instead of going all out. Given the ride today and strength later, this is probably a good strategy. Have a great day and weekend! |
