I've been out of the game for...a while. (10 years)

My old heart rate monitor has pooped out, and I tried to pry it apart to put a battery in it and failed.

I'd like to get a heart rate monitor that will also record speed and distance and can work for swim, bike, run.

I've seen this discussion: https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid... and they discussed:
Spartan Trainer Wrist HR
Many different Garmin products
The Polar V800

all of those items listed are wrist-based heart rate monitors. Are those accurate? Or do people not use the strap around the chest anymore?

Lots of votes in that thread for the Garmin 920 (but I think the discussion was centered around battery life for IM distances).

I've had the Garmin 310, the 910 and now have the 735. LOVE the 735 as it's comparatively so lightweight and easier to wear on my small wrist. The GPS picks up super fast, it connects to the app on my phone for immediate download, and has a Live Track feature so others can watch you train or race. The wrist heart rate feature on the 735 works fantastic in my opinion.

I have a 935 and the heart rate on the run is pretty accurate for me, but they can vary person to person. It may depend on skin type, hair on your arms, or even vein size. You can still wear a chest strap even if it has optical Heart rate. I do that sometimes so I can get HR information on the watch and bike computer at the same time. The wrist heart rate monitors tend to not be as accurate on the bike.

If you wear a strap it will override the optical sensor on the watch. I wear a strap with my 735 sometimes since I think it gives better readings.
