Good morning from a blustery, grey desert...boo!

Heading out for my last long run--three hours--before my 50K next Saturday!  Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to get rain and wind. Ah well,  just gotta push through it I guess.  It helps that I'm listening to Endurance--the story of Sir Ernest Shackleton's expedition--if those men could handle what they had to go through I'm pretty sure I can deal with some wind and rain.

Have a great day--J White, pretty impressed with all this fence building!  That's hard work!

Rain runs are the best (provided it’s not a torrential downpour). I always feel like a badass afterward.

6:30 - 45’ moderate run. Legs were a bit heavy from yesterday’s brick, and we had about 95% humidity. So, it didn’t feel particularly refreshing!

Have a good day.

6.3 mile run this morning.

Check out Endure by Alex Hutchinson. He briefly touches on Henry Worsely and Ernest Shackleton. Lots of stories about extreme endurance and the biology, neurology, and psychology behind it.

I’ve read it once and plan on reading it again leading up to the HIM.

You can have some of our sun...I could do without it sometimes!

2:15 of trainer riding here, most of it just under/at/over HIM watts. I was so sweaty I had to put on fresh socks. Then I couldn't get them on without putting baby power in them because my feet were so sweaty. So much for efficient transitions--search for socks and baby powder, plus cats in "transition zone" wanting tummy rubs and other attention.

Then 15 minutes of running in what felt like oven temps. I was really glad it wasn't any further than a "let's just establish that we can still run off the bike" type of deal!

It has been like this for days--oppressively hot and sunny in the morning, then in mid-afternoon this weird grey cloud layer covers the sky and it is then oppressively hot and not sunny. Keep thinking it will finally rain and cool things off a bit but it doesn't. My guess is it's slowly working its way up to a big storm.

Good morning all!

Hope you didn't drown on your run yesterday Kim.

No fence building yesterday or today. Well I might finish up the few odds and ends on the north fence today.

Sunday was our family's Memorial Day cookout. It was about an hour away from us and it started at two, so it broke up the day nicely. Our local YMCA opens at 11 on Sundays, so I snuck in there shortly after they opened and got in the pool and got a quick mile in. Looking at the Garmin data, consistency was the word of the day. A mile is 1740 yards (I swam 1750) and it gives me 100 yard paces. I think my fast one was 1:39 and my slow one was 1:43, so I was pretty happy with that.

Have a safe and happy holiday. May your remembrances be happy ones.
