Subject: Chest Strap For HR Monitor Cutting Into Me...Any Recommendations?
For whatever reason, my Chest strap has begun to dig into me. I did switch to a 920xt a couple months ago..but its just now starting to dig into me during runs.

The strap is not frayed, and there is no damage to the monitor...perhaps its from increased runs or the warmer weather..i don't know.

But what can I do to alleviate the issue? I'm considering vaseline perhaps? I never had this issue with the chest strap for my old Forerunner 210 which I wore considerably tighter...

any ideas much appreciated.

Thanks,
TCO

I'm confused.  Are you talking about a chest strap or the wrist strap on your watch?

Which HR strap are you using? The fabric one or the rubber? If rubber, try switching to the fabric. If you need lube, I'd recommend Body Glide. That stuff is great.

Whether on the wrist or the chest or anywhere else, the answer for chafing is Bodyglide. Arm and Hammer has a knock off that might be cheaper than the original if you get a two pack on Amazon. Confident this will cure your problem.

Its fabric around most of it, but rubber for about 8" or so where the HR monitor sits...so both?

But I never thought of Body Glide...thanks!

I moved to the Scosche arm HR monitor and have never looked back.  The chest strap caused more problems for me than I care to mention but the arm band has been wonderful.  Depending on what I'm doing I'll wear it on my forearm or bicep area.

I've shy'd away from other forms of HR monitors because the science has been fairly critical of the accuracy. (Wrist watches, fitbit, etc.)

Is this arm tracker different? It sounds tempting. TBH, I'm not a fan of bulky chest straps, but tolerate them for accuracy.

I've haven't used the Scosche HRM but I've heard good things about it from others.  I agree that the wrist-based HRMs are not the most accurate.  I have a Garmin 735 and it's hit or miss on tracking my heart rate.  I have both the Garmin soft strap HRM and the 4iii HRM.  The 4iii is very comfortable and it's my go to HRM.  I originally purchased it as a bridge for my Ant+ devices and my iPad when using Zwift, but I use it all the time now regardless of whether I'm on the Zwift platform or not.  It's not the cheapest solution but it works well.

DC Rainmaker has a differing opinion on accuracy: he's a fan of the Scosche because it is very accurate:  https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2018/01/scosches-rhythm-24-optical-hr-sensor.html

Just get a Scosche wrist monitor and be done with it. Chest straps are fine for indoor trainer rides.
