Has anyone ever done an aquabike? I'm considering doing the Vineman Aquabike next year but I haven't heard of anyone doing it. Just looking for any advice anyone can give me. Thanks.

I did the Miami man HIM aquabike last year. It was good.  I'm, not much of a runner anyway.

I personally have never done one, but know people who have and who have liked them. I'd imagine it could be quite fun to swim and then just kill it on the bike without having to worry about running afterwards.  I was unable to run this entire past summer and considered doing an aquabike, but didn't feel as though I was in a place mentally in which I would be able to handle stopping after the bike (I had trained very hard to have a great season and was not doing well at handling my inability to race). The condition that left me unable to run this year is going to be with me for the rest of my life, and I've promised myself that if I ever go through another season like this again, I will do an aquabike. In fact, it may become a necessity for me at some point...just not anytime soon, I hope.

Good luck, and have fun. Maybe I'll see you out there one day!

oh man, do the aquabike! you'll love it i promise! this past august i did the steelhead HIM aquabike race and LOVED it. my reasoning was that i just didn't feel confident in my legs just yet to do the full HIM. i saw they had an aquabike division so i thought...what the heck? and yes, tis true, you can just hammer it on the bike because obviously theres no run. it was a great experience to get a little taste of doing a HIM without killing myself. i would do it again next year but I think i'm going to do the full HIM instead. anyway, to answer your question, i say go for it! you really will love it! good luck!

I did an aquabike last year and loved it. I approached it as a training day because I knew that I couldn't run 13 miles, and I had two nephews doing the HIM. Since I knew that I'd be there to watch them, I decided to jump in and get some training while watching them.

And who doesn't love a long, safe bike course? The above posters sound like they were racing--I just treated it as a bike tour type of an event with a swim before. Complete fun. Good luck!

I did an aquabike last weekend, because an injury forced me out of the open HIM. It was still fun to be out there instead of sitting the race out, but I definitely wasn't the same experience as a triathlon. I just treated it as a training day.

Advice? Go hard on the swim and harder on the bike.

I watched the Vineman Aquabike this year, and it looked like a fun race.  I mean, the swim is great!  And the bike course is beautiful, if a bit challenging.

I say go for it.  Course, I'm partial to local races.

The only complaint I heard/had about the Aquabike was that there is no real FINISH LINE.  Just the bike dismount.  It kinda looked like it would feel like an anticlimax.  That, and the race volunteers and organizers were still working the bugs out in terms of how to direct the bike traffic coming into T2.  It's held the same day as the Full Vineman, all the different relays, and Barb's Race.  So there's technically about 6 different races going on at one time.

If you're ever in the area, we'd be happy to take a ride around the course with ya.

At PrairieMan we got to sprint across the main finish line, about 200 meters from the trasition area
