Subject: Algae
Was about to hop in the water / sea for a training swim and noticed the beginnings of algae bloom forming on the suface and weird shrimp like things swimming about. Not sure how bad algae has to be not to swim in it but not sure its worth the risk? Any thoughts? Is it back to the pool (i hate swimming lengths over nice long open water swims) or risk getting the squits...or worse?

Dunno....Most water has some algae in it somewhere, but some kinds can be toxic enough to kill dogs and make people pretty sick; others are just disgusting to swim through. In the places where I've done OWS, the local government usually puts up warning signs if water quality is so bad that swimming, fishing, or other activities would be hazardous. Maybe check with them if the lake is within a park or inside city/ county limits?
