Subject: Wetsuits and Running Crops?
I'm a runner turned triathlete, and have never worn a wetsuit - if I wore compression crops (below the knee) would it affect the functionality of the wetsuit? I know it's recommended to use shorts, but I'm trying to be frugal and I would prefer to use what I have in my closet (and I have a LOT of crops but no shorts...)

Thanks for your help!

I can't imagine why it would make any difference. Anything you wear under the wetsuit is...under the wetsuit.

Best of luck.

Thanks, that's what I thought but I would hate to get waterlogged or something unpredictable! They're pretty thin and tight. I appreciate the response.

The idea of the wetsuit is that water gets in, but it's not running through the suit. So it should fit pretty tight (when you first put one on, it'll almost feel constricting). But whatever you wear under the wetsuit WILL get wet.

Is it safe to assume you're thinking of biking in your running crops?

You might consider testing that out - soaking wet as a race simulation - to see if any issues arise (chaffing or rubbing where you're in contact with the saddle comes to mind).

I wouldn't see why. As long as they are not loose and bunch up, should go under the suit and work just fine.

Good call. It's "only" a 40km bike and I am pretty comfortable on my saddle for now - in dry conditions at probably lower than race speeds. I will likely grab a proper kit as a reward for finishing, if I am convinced this is something I'll get up to more! Ironman dreams....Thanks for your thoughts!
