Subject: RE: HELP!!!! Welcome! I actually started later than you...been racing 6 years now and getting ready to turn 59.
First, as mentioned, start slow, especially with regard to running.
Second, whether or not you swam as a youth, get swim lessons. Many folks "think" they can bypass the lessons part and do ok by going to the pool and swimming some laps ... unless they come from a competitive youth swim background, they'll spend way to much energy fighting bad mechanics.
Third, regarding the bike, just ride. You'll help your riding immensely if you're properly fitted on a properly sized bike.
Fourth, consistency is the best way to get better and prevent injury...especially for the running. Start slow and short but try to run 4-6 times a week (if only for 10 minutes at a time ). Your body needs to adjust to the demands of running so you have to add the time component slowly but steadily. |
