Pre-race routine:

Got up about 0430, had some oatmeal, and watched Clemson beat Florida State (reruns are all that's on tv that early). Left around 0545, got some coffee, and headed to the race.
Event warmup:

Got there early enough to wander a bit. When things started warming up a little more, I took off my warm-up pants, and turned in my stuff to the gear check. I stretched a little bit, then went to go to the bathroom. I THOUGHT 25 minutes would be enough. I thought wrong, apparently.

Had a gel before about 10 minutes from the start. Note to self: strawberry banana is nasty.

Comments:

Well, considering I was sprinting from the bathroom to my start position, AFTER the gun went off, I had a slightly harried start. Fortunately, I was far enough back that I still made it, so to speak. The first 3 miles were very crowded. I ended up going out faster than planned because of the being late to the start, and because I was fighting to get some sort of position. They said that the corrals were set up so that people would start with those who posted similar times. Yeah, right. I passed people within the first mile who had corral numbers that were 6 behind mine. The running into the sun sucked too (that's how I missed the 2nd mile marker). I almost missed the chip pad at the 5K mark, too, but fortunately managed to run over it.
After the 3rd mile, I started settling in a little more, found a pace, and stuck with it. The bands on the course were fun, but didn't do much for me. Except for the lone piper at close to mile 10. He gave me a boost. I didn't use any gels during the race; I stuck with water and the Amino Vital they gave out on the course. After hitting mile 12, mile 13 took FOREVER. That was my only mental bad spot, right at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Go to the bathroom earlier. Other than that, things went well.

MORE BATHROOMS!!!!!!! It shouldn't take me 25+ minutes to use a bathroom.

Way to stick with your race plan even though you had to sprint from the Bathroom.

I'll have to come up and do one of those Philly runs on of these days.

Ridiculously fast time. I don't think I could do that pace for 5 k. Ok, maybe, but not for 10!

I feel dirty.

Great race!  Your start reminds me of the scene in Tin Cup when he banks the shot off the porta potty.  "I'll bank Scout off the sh**ter, 1:36."

Excellent run!

I spent 30 minutes in the porta-john line also. Made it to my corral with about 2 minutes till race time. I don't remember the lines being so bad other years. Finding parking seemed worse this year also.
