Months of dry days. The lake across the street dried up and when my dog ran across the pasture, she kicked up a dust cloud like in the Roadrunner cartoons!

FF to this week. The lake is full and my dog is learning to swim in the pastureā€¦.

Yay.

For the first time in 17 years I have yet to add water to the swimming pool this year! In years past I would periodically have to add water but she's been filled with ample rain this year! I think NC is going to get a few showers.....

I was there 2 years ago when we got 17" from Matthew.  I saw yesterday some areas might get 40" this time, but they're now showing it might track a little further South.

Every pile of horse shii** on the property seems to have mushrooms growing out of it. Pretty rare occurrence around these parts. I can post those up in the garden thread when I harvest, right?

Keep your shotgun loaded and your eyes open for "Woodstock" interlopers looking for 'shrooms.

I live under that yellow band. It keeps banding a rolling in off the Gulf like a tropical storm. Not as bad as the poor folks in the Carolinas, but we're at maximum saturation. Good OT for those rescue teams at low water crossings.

She's our rescue mutt Daisy. I showed her pic to a co-worker the other day and says, "Oh, that's a Black Mouth Cur." Google search shows several dogs that are identical to her, though many more that aren't. I think she's a little small to be full blood, but it's likely that one of her parents was. She's a great dog so far.

Good looking dog!  I'm considering a rescue dog for my next one.  I've always had and trained retrievers but I'm not sure, at my age, I really have it in me to train up another dog to hunting standards.  I think I'll take in a dog that needs a good life and call it even.

Thanks. Keep in mind some of the quirks these animals might have. Our previous had been shot with a 22 and therefore scared of thunder and fireworks. She was also scared of electric tools, toothbrushes or anything that made a whirring noise. So far, this one seems pretty normal and didn't suffer any abuse. She is extremely sensitive though. My wife telling her she's being a bad dog ruins her day and she'll go lay down somewhere until the mood changes!

Years ago we had lightening strike the ground on our property. It killed both of my wife's horses. It did not kill our 2 dogs but after that they were both terrified of thunder. My guess it they got a terrible shock and for the rest of their lives will associate that shock with thunder as a Pavlovian response.
