Subject: Endless Pool = Speed?
Hi,

I have recently purchased the EP Fastlane and I was wondering if anyone has had any issues or challenges in getting used to the current speed. I'm an average swimmer so when I swim at 1:45/100yds in open water or swimming pools, it's pretty much a tempo workout.
But when I set the Fastlane to 1:45/100yds, it doesn't seem as challenging for me.

Has anybody dealt with similar speed or perception of effort issues?

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Fabio

Sounds to me that the water flow dynamics in the endless pool are helping you glide through the water easier. I suggest you set it to a more difficult setting so you can swim at the RPE you desire.

I wouldn't expect the current speed to be any more accurate then the pace on a treadmil.  I'd set the speed to give you the desired RPE.  This is the problem with endless pools.  You have no idea how far or what pace you are swimming.

I used an endless pool 2-3x per week for one winter so I got pretty used to it

The strength of the current/difficulty depended a lot on where I was relative to the "motor/nlower..." whatever you call it

Slightly offset from center was much easier.
Close to the motor was easier. For example if my fingers were just touching the unit that was easiest. 5 feet back was the hardest

The pool had a mirror on the bottom so I would place it before starting and use it as a reference of where I should be

I used my Garmin with a timer. So I would program workouts like 10x2min with 20sec rest and the watch would vibrate to tell me when to stop/go

I did use the EP pace to monitor my progress from workout to workout.
So I would do 10x2min with the EP saying the pace was 1:30. Next time I would do it at 1:28....and so on.

I would use the same sets in the same physical position.
