Subject: RE: EKG stress test Originally posted by rebiker17
Hi triathletes,
This is Jose Dominguez and I am getting into triathlon. I have already done two Olympic distances and one half. In my home country, it is mandatory to pass a stress test if you wanna get the license to compete and highly recommended if you are just doing it for fun. How is this in the USA?
I would like to take that test, How is it call exactly? Where can I arrange it?
Thank you
I did the test twice but it was part of a University study. I was a participant and I think they didn't want people dying in their study :- )
Both times they did a ramp test until complete exhaustion. I wore a mass to measure gas exchange. This was so they could measure my VO2max.
But I also had the EKG probes on me and a cardiologist followed the test.
He told me I was healthy enough to do these types of tests and compete
I have never heard of someone being asked for this test in a race in the US. I have been asked for a Dr's note for races in Europe
I would ask your Dr if he thinks it's necessary. My guess is he will say no IF you are in good health but it's always best to get a professional's advice.
