reg open eight days now. Looking like it might be full by the end of the week. I really want to do this race, but my race dollars this week are going to Gen. Smallwood. I hope I can still get in to Columbia in about three weeks. If you reg now, how long do you have to pay?

Anybody a veteran of this race? This will be my first Tri and I am looking for some pointers about the course and how the transitions run.

Did it last year, if that qualifies me for veteran status. Best advice I can give is to ride the bike course and become familiar with it. It's all hills, some steeper than others. Learning the descents is especially important. The run course is hilly, as well (all uphill as I recall Wink).

Transitions: The race starts away from TA. ~150 yd run across grass once out of the water. Bike exit is up a grassy hill. If swim entrance is at 6 o'clock, bike exit is at 12 o'clock. Bike entrance is at 9 o'clock. Run exit is back at 6 o'clock position, and race finish is back where the swim started. That what you're looking for?

That's great info. I heard the bike course was hilly. I'm assuming that since it's mid-May a wetsuit is in order?

Ha. A dry suit would be more like it.

anyone know a good place to rent a suit?  I have a surfing wet suit but I'm sure that won't be able to work too well in a mile swim.

I don't know of any place close to Columbia. I was going to check out this shop in Virginia.

this will be my first oly distance tri. i trained on the irongirl course with my wife last year, but that had a turn-around at the school, so i haven't yet been on the part of the columbia course beyond there. hopefully once all this ice goes away and it warms up, we'll be able to get back out there and give it a try since we're both signed up.

as far as a wetsuit goes, you might want to check ebay. i got a QR sleeveless that had been used once for only $46 + $10 shipping. i'm doing an the kinetic sprint tri in april which has an open water swim, so between those two tris, it'll be less than the cost of two rentals--usually $35-40, i think.

http://www.wetsuitrental.com is an online wetsuit rental place that i've seen people say they've used.

thanks for the tips.  The ride after the school is where the hard part comes with the hills.  Glad to see I'm not the only one for this being their first oly tri.  Good luck

It's coming up soon! Just a few days away.

I rode the bike course yesterday, followed by a 3 mile run around Centennial Lake.

I ran the run course today.

Next week I'll do the same on Tuesday/Wednesday then taper the rest of the week. This is my 4th time for this race and I'm looking forward to it.

See you there!

My first oly also.  Pretty pumped to see how I do.  Won't have the chance like the rest of you to get to ride the course or run it right before the race.  I have ridden the bike course before and know the run fairly well.

Should be good.  Anyone trying to meet prior to the race, say at the boat dock to get a picture or something with all the BT people?
