Subject: Twelve Days of Christmas Swims?
Just putting it out there in case someone has something more interesting than what I've found online. Our HS and masters' coaches always made up these workouts for us, but I'm on my own now for swimming. Any favorites? Pool time's not limitless and family would like to see me sometime, so it can be longish (4-4.5K) but nothing truly epic! Any/all strokes and pool toys (or not) okay. (If this doesn't make sense, never mind. Meant more for fishes and coach types.)

I read your post last night and thought yuck I imagine a 12 days of Christmas workout to be awful. Got to Master's Class this morning and what do you think the workout on the board was?

12 days of Christmas lol

12 x 50 (1-4 c/u drill, 5-8 RTG, 9-12 swim)
11 x 50 don't remember the interval set
10 x 25
9 x 100 descend
8 x 75 as 25 swim/50 kick
7 x 50
6 x 50 as 25 swim/25 back
5 x 100 paddles and bouys but my shoulder was bothering me so I adjusted this to 100 for the 1st, next 3 were 50's, last was a 100 and all were paddles and fins instead of bouy.
4 x 100 descend
3 x 50 kick
2 x 100 all out
1 x 200 swim down

Thanks! That sounds pretty challenging! A bit long (I am lazy as this is last week of "off season") so maybe I will mix it up with one I found online. I do miss having people to commiserate with while I do the workout, though! I swam with a master's program sometimes in Oregon during school breaks, but now we've moved to Idaho and am back living in the US; the closest master's group doesn't work for me in terms of pool location and workout times. There's a gym only a mile away with a decent pool, and I can almost always get a lane to myself, but it's kind of lonely--mostly elderly water walkers and no adult swim clubs.

I swam for years by myself at the Y during water volleyball class. I had to flip turn very carefully so I wouldn't splash the water walkers next to me and get their hair wet . I totally understand the challenge of swimming lonely. I really stalled joining the Master's group that formed last year at our pool because I had managed my swimming workouts myself for so long but it has really been good for me. They have motivated me to do more than I ever even thought I wanted to do lol.

I asked coach if he had some kind of torture planned for New Years Eve. Yep - 100 100's. I think I'll be skipping that one!

Thought about that one. Two guys in the lane next to me at the community center pool in Oregon used to do that one every year on the 31st. Not really up to it--maybe I will do 50 X 100 instead!
